With Fernando Tatis out for at least the rest of the regular season I believe the Mets could recall Trot Nixon, if they decided they needed another bench player. I was surprised that Nixon wasn't recalled at roster expansion but instead was placed on the 60 day DL. Veteran players are often given the choice of being released or placed on the 60 day when room is needed on the roster, late in seasons they general choose the DL because they cont. to get paid and keep their service time. Prior to the end of the minor league season Nixon was hitting .293, with 4 HRs, 1 double and 14 RBIs in ten games for New Orleans. Nixon was originally placed on the DL on 6/29, so as long as the 60 day was retro active to the original transaction date, which is almost automatic then Nixon is eligible to come off anytime they need him and is potentially available for the post season as well.
