While the trade didn't excite me, it also didn't cause me the consternation that it did many Mets fans. Look my take was, he's going to be a fourth outfielder who cost next to nothing and Brian Stokes, who's out of options was going to have a hard time making the team anyway, so who cares about this one.But the more I read the more I scratch my head about it, especially since Cory Sullivan ( my pick) had just signed a minor league deal with the Astros. Sully said he enjoyed his time here, so they could have certainly outbid the Stros and his numbers are similar to Matthews. Who knows maybe they knew Stokes wasn't going to make the team and wanted to at least get something for him or maybe they feel they need a guy who could start in center and weren't convinced the group of 4th outfielders could handle the spot for two months. The reports would give anybody trepidation if there team just traded for a guy who's older (35 y/o) with a bad knee, who isn't...
