PLAYERS: David WrightRA Dickey
TEAMS: New York Mets
There’s been no progress regarding new extensions with David Wright and R.A. Dickey since they had their options picked up last week. Some reports said that negotiations were at a standstill last week, but today Andy McCullough of the Star-Ledger reports that the Mets are not close to reaching new agreements with either Wright or Dickey, according to a one person with knowledge of the discussions. This is starting to take on a very familiar feeling. I’m also starting to hate the phrase “top priority” and cringe whenever I hear someone in the front office use it. JD Original Post 11/1 According to Andy Martino of the Daily News, the Mets plan to begin to intensify talks with their star third baseman David Wright this week. Now that the Mets have exercised David Wright’s 2013 club option, the team and its signature player plan to intensify negotiations, discussing years and dollars as soon as this week, according to a person briefed on the process. Mets officials are determined to con...

Dickey, at least 12 or more teams could be interested according to a few baseball executives he spoke with. 2012 Mets Player Review: David Wright, 3B

DAVID WRIGHT, 3B PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Fortunately, one expectation of David Wright did not come true, and that is the Mets would trade him by the deadline. Wright’s situation wasn’t quite like Jose Reyes’ in that Wright has an option for 2013, but the fear of losing him was there, nonetheless. A six-time All-Star who missed 60 games in 2011 because of injury, it was hoped...

Mets and Dickey Making Progress On Extension

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, R.A. Dickey told him that contract talks have progressed between him and the Mets. Dickey told him that he feels the organization is heading in the right direction. You may recall was skeptical of the team’s direction last month and said he wanted to know what the plan was before he negotiates an extension. Dickey also said that he considered...

David Wright Named Wilson Defensive Player of the Year

After being denied a Rawlings NL Gold Glove as the league’s top defensive third baseman in 2012, David Wright can take solace in being named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year for the Mets. Wright trumped Gold Glove winner Chase Headley in just about every advanced defensive metric at third base, but that didn’t stop the coaches and managers from muffing up the decision...

Mets Could Have Dickey Signed Before End Of This Month

Andy McCullough of The Star-Ledger added some more depth to what R.A. Dickey had to say about his contract talks, the Mets, and the direction of the team. “He’s convinced me,” Dickey said before being honored by the ALS Association Greater New York Chapter at the New York Marriott Marquis. “I think the Mets are moving in the right direction, that’s for sure. I certainly...

Mets Injuries and Rumors: R.A. Dickey, David Wright

R.A Dickey underwent surgery to repair an abdominal muscle in October.  The surgery was relatively minor and he is expected to have a completely normal offseason.  Part of his offseason will include contract discussions.  The same is true of David Wright who was healthy for most of 2012.  The New York Mets want to extend both players, but they have not made much headway. ...

Cerrone: “Niese or Dickey, But Not Both”

As the Mets look for ways to improve their roster heading into next year, its become apparent that their shoestring budget will force them into the trade market.  There are a million ways that could play out, but some people have their ideas.  For instance, I think the pertinent play would be for the Mets to shop RA Dickey in an effort to fill their outfield and/or catching needs...

Wilson Makes Better Baseball Gloves Than Rawlings

After being denied a Rawlings NL Gold Glove as the league’s top defensive third baseman in 2012, David Wright can take solace in being named the Wilson Defensive Player of the Year for the Mets. When Sandy Promised “Wholesale Changes” Did It Resonate With You?

October is gone, the World Series is gone too, and we’re into the first week of November. All quiet on the Eastern Front. Thanks to some of the well-timed leaks soon after the season ended, there was suddenly an urgency to this offseason compared to seasons past. An apparent $100 million offer was being floated to the media and in turn to us, a specific quote that both Dickey and...

Mets Card of the Week: 1994 Joe Orsulak

1994 PINNACLE MUSEUM COLLECTION JOE ORSULAK If Woody Guthrie were alive in 1994, he would have written songs about Joe Orsulak. Orsulak is the MLB version of the common man. He has a common name, a name that sounds like hard work, a name that is democratic enough to include just about every vowel. (There is, after all, no “i” in Joe Orsulak.) He has a common face, with a thin...
