Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden is getting attention for his outburst during an anti-crime rally in his hometown of Stockton. Braden was carrying a baseball bat and began yelling at the city's police chief about Stockton's crime woes at Wednesday's rally. At one point, Chief Eric Jones told Braden he would be escorted out if he didn't wait his turn to speak. Stockton filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and has experienced a surge in homicides. Braden later told CBS-13 (http://cbsloc.al/SUzXDn ) he was recently attacked in his car, and his grandmother was robbed. He said he has put his house up for sale, and he encouraged other people to arm themselves or also leave the city. A's spokesman Bob Rose told the Oakland Tribune (http://bit.ly/SIUznk ) the team had no comment.

A's pitcher Dallas Braden goes off, nearly ejected from anti-violence rally

Well, this is certainly something. Injured Oakland Athletics pitcher Dallas Braden, who is typically very proud of his upbringing in Stockton, California, was nearly ejected from an anti-violence rally in the town on Wednesday. Braden began to yell at the police chief who was speaking at the rally, claiming that the police in town are lying to people and not doing an adequate job...

Dallas Braden Yells At The Police Now

You may remember Dallas Braden from such 2010 classics as yelling "get off my mound" at Alex Rodriguez, this awesome t-shirt commemorating the event and somehow throwing a perfect game against the Rays. He pitched 18.0 innings in 2011 before losing the year to shoulder surgery. In March 2012, Braden had a little more surgery for a partial rotator cuff tear. Now that his...

A's Braden yells at police chief

Braden began shouting at the chief about the city's crime woes at Wednesday's rally. At one point, Chief Eric Jones told Braden he would be escorted out if he didn't wait his turn to speak. Stockton filed...

McCarthy wants to return to A's

Brandon McCarthy was in the dugout for Oakland's 8-2 win on Friday, the right-hander's first time sitting with his teammates during a game since he was hit in the head by a line drive on Sept. 5 and required emergency brain surgery. McCarthy told reporters that he has been cleared to begin riding an exercise bike and if that goes well, to play catch. He also hopes to...

A’s Rookie Starting Pitchers Defying Odds

The other day, a clerical error on Major League Baseball’s part gave Athletics pitcher Travis Blackley another chance to be a freshman. As a result, the A’s — who had already received more than 60 starts from rookie pitchers — moved even further up the leaderboard of games started by rookie pitchers. But while many rookie-laden pitching rotations stumble, Oakland has gotten...

Athletics' Moss hits 3-run walk-off

Josh Donaldson hit a tying two-run home run in the ninth inning and Brandon Moss hit a game-ending three-run homer in the 10th, and the Oakland Athletics gained ground on the first-place Texas Rangers with a stunning 7-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Coco Crisp singled off Oliver Perez (1-3) leading off the final inning for his fourth hit. Stephen Pryor entered with...

Josh Reddick Hates Fastballs

“Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.” — Pedro CerranoThe archetype of power hitters feasting on fastballs and whiffing on offspeed pitches has long floated within baseball circles. The quotation featured above from the movie Major...

A's hope to make final series with Rangers relevant

Oakland split its key four-game series at Texas, usually a good result at Rangers Ballpark, but for the A's, not a perfect scenario. Oakland had hoped to keep within striking distance of the Rangers in the AL West, but the A's are back to four games behind Texas with six games to play. The final three are against the Rangers. So the A's must hope that the Los Angeles...

Athletics 8, Mariners 2

Stephen Drew hit a two-run homer, Coco Crisp added a solo shot and the Oakland Athletics gained ground on the first-place Texas Rangers in the AL West with an 8-2 win against the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. The A's trail the two-time defending AL champions by three games with five to play. The Rangers lost 7-4 at home to the Los Angeles Angels. Texas finishes the season...

A's set AL season strikeout record but earn key win

The Oakland A's established an all-time American League record for strikeouts by batters in a season Wednesday, but no one on the team was a bit unhappy with the mark. For all their K's, the A's are flying high, in a playoff spot and, after a 9-3 victory at Texas, just three games behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West. Oakland tied the Tampa Bay Devil Rays'...

Athletics 7, Mariners 4(10)

Josh Donaldson hit a tying two-run home run in the ninth inning and Brandon Moss hit a game-ending three-run homer in the 10th, and the Oakland Athletics gained ground on the first-place Texas Rangers with a stunning 7-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Win over Texas has A's thinking division

The Oakland Athletics may be able to do better than just get into the playoffs as a wild card. They might sneak away with a division title if they keep playing like this against the AL West-leading Texas Rangers. Oakland led for good only three batters into the game and chased Texas starter Martin Perez before the end of the first inning in a 9-3 victory Wednesday night to pull...

Mariners-Athletics Preview

The Oakland Athletics are running out of time to catch the AL West leaders. Still, a series against the division-worst Seattle Mariners could help the A's move closer to their first playoff berth in six seasons. Oakland goes for a fifth straight victory over Seattle on Friday night when it begins a season-ending six-game homestand. After splitting a four-game set with West...

Rangers fan is so excited to wish mom happy birthday on-air she drops an F-bomb (video)

FOX Sports Southwest’s Jim Knox was making his way in front of a sea of humanity during the Texas Rangers-Oakland Athletics game on Thursday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington when he came upon an enthusiastic young lady sporting shades and rocking a fauxhawk near the front. In a move I’m sure Mr. Knox quickly regretted, [...]
