PLAYERS: Fred Wilpon
TEAMS: New York Mets
When it comes to the Skill Sets financial situation it seems we Mets fans are better off ignoring what they say and instead focus on what they do. From the outstanding reporting of Eno Sarris of Amazin’ Avenue,  we discovered that the Skill Sets have hired  CRG Partners , a firm that works with businesses swimming in red ink and tries to either help them turnaround their business or it they are too far gone, file for bankruptcy. From reading the story, it looks like the Skill Sets are ready to be made comfortable for the inevitable, their loss of the Mets. Sure, as Mets fans we should be rejoicing that the end of the Wilpon/Katz reign of ownership is closer to a conclusion than ownership as led on, and that has been the primary problem with the Skill Sets, their inability to be truthful with their fan base. If there is one thing indisputable about the Mets fans base, it is loyal and forgiving but it you take their kindness for weakness, you will feel their wrath. I truly believe i...

Mets Notes: Cedeno, Hairston, 40-man issues and CRG

The Mets have reached agreement with infielder Ronny Cedeno on a one-year deal, worth just north of $1 million. The Mets had no backup shortstop on the roster so Cedeno certainly fills a need. He’s very good insurance in case Ruben Tejada regresses or if Daniel Murphy gets injured again. Cedeno is not much with the bat in his hands, as he has a lifetime OPS+ of 68 in 2,309...

Live Blog: Jon Rauch and Frank Francisco conference call

Here is a live post, including quotes, notes and Tweets from today’s conference call introducing Frank Francisco and John Rauch:

Scott Hairston to re-sign with the Mets

Photo by Michael BaronAccording to Joel Sherman the Mets have re-signed Scott Hairston, it's not specified by Sherman at this time but there are reports that it's a minor league deal. Just like last year Hairston is a solid pick-up, he can play all three outfield positions and hit off the bench for power.  His first season with the Mets wasn't great but compared to what...

Which Of Our Top Pitching Prospects Are You Most Excited About?

The big three pitching prospects that we have looming down in the minors gives me an eerily familiar feeling. Haven’t we heard this before?  Does “Generation K” and the names of Jason Isringhausen, Bill Pulsipher and Paul Wilson ring a bell?  This was supposed to be our home grown trio of Superstars in the 90′s. These were the guys who were supposed lead us to a World...

Mets Re-Sign Hairston, Open to Harris Return, While Marlins Add Zambrano, AND SO I RANT.

I know the Mets seem to be only making minor tweaks to a team that needs a serious influx of talent, and it sucks.  But even-so, here’s the news… #bbpBox_154938226208018432 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_154938226208018432 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }Can now confirm that Scott Hairston was indeed re-signed by #Metsabout 2 hours ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite...

R.A Dickey is two days into his Mt. Kilimanjaro climb

“Our party is two days into the climb, and we have reached an altitude of 11,300 feet. We started on the Lemosho route up the western side of the mountain in the Lemosho glades at 825 feet and hiked through a mountainous rain forest with monkeys playing overhead. … Although we climbed almost 8,500 feet, the hiking on day one was taxing but not terribly tough. We pulled into the...

Sandy says Johan is ready, priorities, rotation, etc.

Johan Santana is roughly three weeks in to his off-season throwing program, Sandy Alderson said today during a conference call with the team’s beat reporters. According to Alderson, Santana is throwing on consecutive days and from about 75 feet. ”We expect to see him in Spring Training and ready to go at that point,” he said. In addition, Alderson said: He is looking to fill...

Eight Things That Mets/CRG Will Lead To

Now that I’ve established what Turnaround Consultants like CRG actually do, and that barely less than 10% of the businesses that contract them file for bankruptcy, here is what you can expect to see in the next 12 months. Like all the top turnaround consultants out there, CRG will do an exhaustive analysis on all aspects of the Mets business for the purpose turning around all...

My Take: The Mets should have signed Harris instead of Hairston

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that… “The Mets have agreed to terms on a major league contract with Scott Hairston, according to a person familiar with the deal.  The contract is pending a physical.” Jon Heyman of CBS Sports added to the story also, tweeting the following… #bbpBox_154970830303006720 a { text-decoration:none; color:#009999; }#bbpBox_154970830303006720...

The New York Mets have signed infielder Ronny Cedeno to a one-year contract. ESPN New York reported that the deal for Cedeno is worth $1.1 million.
