LOS ANGELES, CA - AUGUST 30: Frank McCourt leaves Los Angeles County Superior Court after day one of a non-jury divorce trial on August 30, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. The trial, being presided over by Judge Scott M. Gordon in California Superior Court, is to decide whether Frank McCourt is the sole owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team or his estranged wife and former Dodger CEO Jamie McCourt still has ownership stake in the team. What you see here is an architect’s rendering of proposed changes to Dodger Stadium. Of course, the Dodgers are in the process of being sold to one of three potential bidders. Frank McCourt, the current owner of the team, is expected to make final negotiations this week. But the design here is from the mind of one Orel Hershiser, and his plan is to share with the future owners of the Dodgers.

Notice anything, I don’t know, odd about the drawings? No, not the fact it no longer would look Dodger Stadium, but what it actually looks like?

Well, I will let the LA Times give you a hint

The core concept is to turn Dodger Stadium into a “futuristic electronic showcase” to enhance fan enjoyment, particularly in this era of mobile technology, according to a press release issued Friday. Yet some elements of the rendering appear jarring — a double-deck pavilion in right field, demolition of the reserve deck down the left-field line, and an overall view beyond the outfield wall that closely resembles the cavernous home of the Texas Rangers.

Closely resembles? I’d say it is a pretty blatant rip-off of the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. It has just about every single similar nod to other famous stadiums as the one in Texas. The Yankees facade, the higher fence in left as a tip of the hat to Boston, a roofed home run porch in right field is reminiscent of Tiger Stadium, and it even looks like the arched windows from Comiskey Park are out there. Orel probably paid a lot of money for a copy and paste job.

I’m not for all these new stadiums, especially since Dodger Stadium having a face lift, but there is no denying that they are money makers, especially for established and relatively competitive teams. But this would be an abortion and an insult if this change happened in LA.
