ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado sustained an apparent left knee injury in the seventh inning Monday afternoon at Tropicana Field.
The second-year player was running through first base after a single off Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jake McGee when his left knee buckled underneath him.
He fell to the ground and clutched the knee in pain. Medical personnel tended to him, and he was wheeled off the field in a stretcher behind home plate a short time later.
Alexi Casilla was called to pinch-run.
Machado was 2 for 4 with one strikeout Monday. He has hit .283 with 14 home runs and 71 RBI this season.
