San Diego Padres first baseman Brad Hawpe underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow.
Hawpe has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 18 with a strained right middle finger.
In his first season with the Padres, Hawpe batted .231 with four home runs and 19 RBIs in 62 games.
The 32-year-old Hawpe has a .276 career batting average in eight seasons.
