The Padres beat the Cubs by 2-0, 7-4, and again 2-0, the latter a five-hit shutout by Clayton Richard. The sweep gave them five wins on this short six-game home stand and 10 wins in their last 12 played at Petco Park. The Padres pitching staff also held former top prospect Anthony Rizzo to one hit in 12 at-bats batting third for the Cubs over the series. Rizzo came into the series hitting .310 with nine homers and 23 RBI. He left Petco with his average dropping 19 points after mustering only a single in Wednesday’s game. The Padres will head to Pittsburgh Friday to start a three game series against the Pirates.
