The San Diego Padres officially introduced Josh Byrnes as the team's new general manager on Monday.
Byrnes becomes the Padres' third GM in a little over two years and replaces Jed Hoyer, who left to take the same role under Theo Epstein with the Chicago Cubs.
San Diego gave Byrnes a five-year contract plus an option year. He has worked previously under Padres CEO Jeff Moorad, who hired him as general manager in Arizona in 2005.
Byrnes joined the Padres' front office in December after being fired by the Diamondbacks, a year after Moorad had departed for San Diego. The Padres went 71-91 and finished last in the NL West last season.
