The San Diego Padres appear to be open to the idea of offering newly acquired outfielder Carlos Quentin a contract extension.Padres general manager Josh Byrnes said the team had its payroll situation under control, and could afford to make a substantial offer to keep Quentin in San Diego for a while."Our payroll model is setting up well," Byrnes said. "We’re not in
total go-for-it mode, but we can make some choices. We acquired Carlos
with the thought that we could extend him."Quentin was acquired from the Chicago White Sox last week for two minor-league pitchers. The 29-year-old is entering his final year of arbitration.Quentin hit .254 with 24 home runs and 77 RBIs in 421 at-bats with the White Sox in 2011.

Breaking Down The Carlos Quentin Trade
