Padres Throw Away One Year of Gyorko Later, For One Month Now

Jedd Gyorko In 2010 the Padres selected Jedd Gyorko in the 2nd round of the first-year player draft.  Today he was given the number nine and a spot on the opening day roster.  Congratulations to Jedd, he’s a hard worker, good guy, and will be a solid baseball player. With that said, I couldn’t disagree more with this move.  I don’t want to hear, “the front office is showing...

And the Winner Is? Tyson Ross

Spring 2013 The San Diego Padres end their Spring Training marathon with the announcement of Right-hander Tyson Ross as their 5th starter. The 25 yr old, a 2nd round 2008 draftee of the Oakland Athletics, was acquired by the Padres in a trade with the A’s last November. The Padres sent utility infielder Andy Parrino and pitcher Andrew Werner to the A’s. Drafted at 6′ -5 ...

Injuries Remind Padres Fans that Prospects Are No Sure Thing

In 2008 the Padres drafted Logan Forsythe and James Darnell, 46th and 69th respectively.  Both advanced hitting prospects that played third base.  Both have had their professional careers derailed by the inability to stay on the field.  For Padres fans, these two players should serve as a reality check.  Baseball is sometimes a game of attrition.  Not only is the game very hard...

Padres 6, Indians 4

San Diego Padres third basemen can't seem to stay healthy. Logan Forsythe was the latest to succumb to injury, and will miss at least six weeks with plantar fasciitis. The timing couldn't be worse. Star Chase Headley is on the disabled list another 2-4 weeks with a fractured thumb, and Forsythe was supposed to replace him. With Forsythe out and prized third-base prospect...

Daily Friar 3.30.13

This is it Padre fans, the final tune up before the regular season begins. The Padres are in San Antonio right now playing in the very small Alamodome where a fly ball is a home run. I didn’t get a chance to touch on this before but the right field fence is only 285 feet down the line. Also the park has a straight right field fence like at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati...

Under The Greydar: Into The Wide Blue Yonder

You might be saying to yourself, "Really, is this guy trying to sell me Yonder Alonso? A no-power corner on the Padres no less?" I guess. I mean, if you want, you can save your money and invest in pogs. Or, you can hear me out. I enjoy a challenge, and it looks like I have a lot of time on my hands since, apparently, I gave up sex for lent. That doesn't include my dakimakura...

Garcia agrees to minor league deal with Orioles

Pitcher Freddy Garcia agreed to a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles, five days after he was released by the San Diego Padres. The 36-year-old right-hander was 1-4 with an 8.71 ERA in six spring training starts for the Padres, allowing 25 runs and 26 hits in 20 2-3 innings. He was 7-6 with a 5.20 ERA in 17 starts and 13 relief appearances for the New York Yankees last...

Padres Camp Report March 30

Peoria, AZ: The San Diego Padres wrapped up minor league camp on Saturday with the Double-A and Triple-A squads both taking losses.

Rangers 5, Padres 4

There was baseball at the Alamodome, and the dimensions were unique, to say the least. Leonys Martin hit the go-ahead single in the sixth inning as the Texas Rangers edged the San Diego Padres 5-4 in exhibition play Friday night in the first baseball game played in the Alamodome. The teams were scheduled to play again Saturday afternoon in a stadium designed for football - and...
