For the second time this season, a Padres player will be heading out on Paternity leave as right-handed pitcher Sean O’Sullivan was placed on leave due to the expected birth of his first born child. O’Sullivan pitched Monday evening, earning a No-decision after giving up only one run over six innings pitched.
So far for the Padres this season, O’Sullivan has posted an 0-2 record with a 3.72 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched over 4 games. Of those four games, O’Sullivan started three games and posted a 2.63 ERA over those three games. O’Sullivan started the season with Triple-A Tucson, but following injuries to both Clayton Richard and Jason Marquis, O’Sullivan found a way onto the team.
Replacing O’Sullivan in the interim will be RHP Miles Mikolas, who will be making his fourth stint with the big league club this season. Mikolas last appeared on July 11 – his only appearance this season – where he posted a scoreless inning of relief against the San Francisco Giants.
