Padres manager Bud Black, general manager Josh Byrnes and assistant G.M. A.J. Hinch spent several minutes throwing baseballs off the new fence in right field at Petco Park on Monday, trying to get a crash course in how they might play starting with the home opener Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The big hope, of course, is that more balls will fly over the fences. They were moved in 11 feet in right field and about 12 feet in the gaps. The right-field fence was lowered to just under 8 feet, matching the height of the fence in left and center. While Petco is expected to remain a pitchers' park, the Padres hope players who crush a ball will be rewarded with a homer rather than a frustrating long out.

San Diego Padres Pitchers Do Their Best ‘Anchorman’ Impressions

A few San Diego Padres pitchers visited the MLB Fan Cave recently and decided to take a crack at reading the news, Ron Burgandy style. The results were not exactly perfect, but they definitely put forth some great efforts. Keep it classy, San Diego. Your browser does not support iframes. Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Padres’ Carlos Quentin exits after HBP

San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin had to exit last night’s contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers after he was hit on the right wrist with a pitch. X-rays have since come back negative, and Quentin is considered day-to-day by the team. Quentin was hit on the right wrist by a sinker from Ronald Belisario. At first, Quentin seemed to be OK and content with simply...

Padres bullpen pitchers do Ron Burgandy impressions because why not (video)

Granted, with the classic comedy being released way back in 2004, it could be argued that nods to “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy”have long passed their timely pop culture reference expiration date. But that does not mean the folks at MLB Fan Cave didn’t believe some humor could be mined out of having Brad Brach, Luke Gregerson, Dale Thayer, Anthony Bass and Joe Thatcher...

San Diego Padres attempt Anchorman spoof

Your browser does not support iframes. The MLB Fan Cave was the site of another quirky attempt at laughs this week.  The San Diego Padres bullpen stopped by to do an Anchorman spoof and take turns being Ron Burgundy.  While the written material and impressions aren't going to have this appear on SNL anytime soon, I will say the rendition of Afternoon Delight at the end...

Padres 9, Dodgers 3

Will Venable homered and hit a bases-loaded triple for the San Diego Padres, who rebounded from a dreadful six-game trip to win their home opener 9-3 against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday at reconfigured Petco Park. Venable tied his career-high with four RBIs. He homered in the first and his two-out triple highlighted a five-run eighth against three Dodgers relievers...

Venable, Padres beat $215M Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 4-3, and already they're being asked if they're pressing because of their $215 million payroll. Will Venable homered and hit a bases-loaded triple for the San Diego Padres, who rebounded from a dreadful six-game trip to win their home opener 9-3 against the rival Dodgers on Tuesday at reconfigured Petco Park. Adrian Gonzalez doesn't think...

Inspiring the Uninspired: Interview With ASU Cory Hahn

Cory Hahn was a rising baseball star until a slide into second base during his third game at Arizona State changed his life. He was the 26th round 2010 pick for the San Diego Padres, but decided to honor his commitment to ASU. Since the accident he has made great strides in his recovery and is currently a Business Communications major, where he hopes to be able to stay in the game...

An ‘Anchorman’ Parody Is Probably The Best We’ll Get From The Padres In 2013

I’m a little surprised it took this long for the San Diego Padres to do an Anchorman parody video, but nevertheless, here we are. On Friday, the Padres and MLB released a video of the Padres’ bullpen staff, arguably the best thing about this 1-5 team*, in their very own version of Anchorman, as a tribute to “San Diego’s own Ron Burgundy”. If you ask me, the Padres should...

Game 7 Recap: Opening Day in San Diego. Padres 9, Dodgers 3

It goes without saying that sometimes when you’ve been out on the road for a while and things aren’t quite breaking your way, there’s no place like home to catch your breath and get back on track.  This proved to be true for the San Diego Padres tonight as they opened their home schedule at Petco Park after a dismal 1-5 road trip to start the season. The Dodgers and the Padres...
