Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
According to the SF Chronicle, the Giants have filled their desperate needs for a stronger bullpen, and they believe they have filled it with left-hander Jeremy Affeldt and their latest acquisition, right-hander Bobby Howry.
The Giants have been the most aggressive team in a slow free-agent market and should make more news as soon as today by announcing a two-year contract with shortstop Edgar Renteria. A deal appears to be done after Renteria underwent a Giants physical Wednesday. Renteria was rumored awhile ago to have signed a contract before, but it was believed that they were ways apart.
In other shortstop news, The Padres have been looking to deal shortstop Khalil Greene this offseason and it looks like they've found their match in the Cardinals.
San Diego has agreed to trade the 29-year-old shortstop to St. Louis for two relievers, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Greene was rumored to be in a Peavy deal to Atlanta, but that obviously did not happen.
