Diamondbacks 9, Marlins 2

Paul Goldschmidt is one of the hottest hitters in baseball. Goldschmidt homered twice, tied his career high with four hits and drove in four runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Miami Marlins 9-2 on Friday night. ''Watch the kid, watch the way he stays with his approach, he's dangerous,'' Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. Goldschmidt hit a two...

Parra throws out runner, busts out finger wag

Diamondbacks right fielder Gerardo Parra is widely known to have one of the best arms in all of baseball. Over the past three seasons, while playing mostly in a part-time role in Arizona's crowded outfield, Parra has totaled nine, 12 and eight assists, with the middle number coming in 2011, when he earned his first Gold Glove. He also already has six assists this year, leading...

Bell believes he's better for Miami experience

PHOENIX -- Heath Bell will return to Miami this weekend as the same effective, efficient closer he was before he got there in 2012 and the one he has become again with five saves in the last nine games for the Diamondbacks. Logic points to Miami, the biggest variable, as the cause of the blip on the resume that last year became. Bell, however, will not point. He has taken the high...

Seventh overall pick in the 2011 draft for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Archie Bradley was dominant in his start for Double-A Mobile on May 13 in a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville. Bradley delivered another strong outing  leading Mobile to a 4-1 win over Pensacola...

Injuries, lost production not deterring D-backs

PHOENIX -- There are a few teams every baseball season particularly troubled by a rash of injuries. It's nothing new; it just happens. This year, the Diamondbacks are one of those teams, having at different times been without their starting second baseman, closer, each of their projected starting outfielders and multiple infielders. Despite the injuries, the D-backs have remained...

Marlns shut out by Diamondbacks

MIAMI Brandon McCarthy pitched a three-hit complete-game shutout for his first win since being struck in the head by a line drive last season as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Miami Marlins 1-0 Saturday night. Gerardo Parra led off the game with a home run for Arizona, which has won four in a row while dealing the Marlins a season-long seven-game losing streak. McCarthy...

1st Quarter Surprises - Mark Reynolds / Paul Goldschmidt

With the first 40+ games played in this year's season, there are some surprises in the standings. The Angels and the Dodgers being in the cellar in the AL and NL West is one that sticks out for me. Most people thought the Indians would be better this year, but I am quite surprised that they are in first place. As we all know, the season doesn't end until October, the divisions...

D-backs look to finish off sweep, win fifth straight

Facing an offensively challenged Miami team that's been particularly bad against left-handers lately, Wade Miley appears to be in a good spot to rebound from his worst outing of the season. Miley will try to keep the Marlins' bats quiet and lead the Diamondbacks to their fifth straight win in the finale of a three-game series at Marlins Park on Sunday. The D-backs (25-18...

Brandon McCarthy Rebounds With Shutout of Marlins

Brandon McCarthy was dominant on Saturday, blanking the Miami Marlins for his first win not only with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but also since being struck in the head with an Erick Aybar line-drive on August 5, 2012 against the Los Angeles Angels. McCarthy registered his third career shutout (his first since September 3, 2011 against the Seattle Mariners) in a 1-0 victory over the...
