If you haven’t heard about the recent tear Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Domonic Brown has been on, then you are missing out on this young player’s rise to stardom. Now many people might say that Brown is just on a hot streak and this can’t continue for long. But Domonic Brown is proving to be one of the only consistent hitters in the Philadelphia Phillies lineup. If you look at Brown’s production this season, he has 19 home runs, 47 RBI, and batting .289. He is doing all of this while only having three walks on the season. That is ridiculous and that has garnered him being named NL Player of the Week in the last two weeks of May and then for the entire month of May being named NL Player of the Month. Even with those accolades Brown is still not being voted for in the all-star game. As of June 4th, as the first all-star ballots came through Domonic Brown was not even in the top 15 in voters for outfielders. Looking at the top three outfielders in voting, it goes Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton who is having a ridiculous season since arriving via trade this past off-season from Arizona, Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper who is now injured but has helped keep the Nationals afloat as they have been going through injuries and finally Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun who is having an alright season despite biogenesis rumors flying around him. In terms of these three outfielders, the only person I think Brown should replace is Braun. Milwaukee is a very horrible team this year but each team is represented in the all-star game in some facet. Yes Braun’s batting average is good coming in at .304 but Brown has 10 more home runs and 11 more RBI than him. Rounding out the top 10 is St.Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence, Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan, St.Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday, and Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. Now taking a look at the next six outfielders in this list, Brown should be getting some votes in comparison to these guys. First let’s take a look at former Phillie Hunter Pence who has almost put up similar numbers as Brown. This season Pence has 10 home runs and 31 RBI with a .291 batting average but he only has one walk on the season. The reason I would give the nod to Brown over Pence is because Domonic Brown has a higher slugging percentage and OPS. Brown’s slugging percentage is .596 while Pence’s is .504 and his OPS is .926 while Hunter Pence’s is .840. You cannot tell me Domonic Brown shouldn’t get the same amount of votes as Pence. I’m not going to compare Brown to Shin-Soo Choo because Choo is having a career year with the Reds and he is well deserving of a spot on the team. San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan has received 572,400 votes and I don’t understand why he has received that many votes because his numbers do not even stand a chance to the other outfielders on the list and Domonic Brown’s numbers are supremely higher. Pagan who has been battling injuries this season is only batting .262 with three home runs and only 14 RBI but you are trying to tell me he has almost 600,000 votes but Domonic Brown couldn’t any. Finally, the last outfielder who I think Domonic Brown should be getting more all-star consideration for than is Matt Holliday. Holliday’s numbers are pedestrian at best. If you thought Pagan’s numbers were bad check out Holliday’s. Holliday is batting .264 with 10 home runs and 37 RBI but has a lower slugging percentage and OPS than Brown but still has received almost 500,000 votes. With Domonic Brown continuing his remarkable season it will be interesting to see if fans start taking notice and vote for the young outfielder because he is the future and the future is now especially in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Brown should be an all-star because so far this season he has been the best player on the Philadelphia Phillies.
