Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The southpaw rattler isportsweb

There is more than one lefty on the Philadelphia Phillies, but this one is Jake Diekman.  Can he handle the heat on the diamond to challenge a big left bat in the 8th inning?  Is he a mirage or the real thing?

The Chrystal Champagne Toast is a salute to Chooch Ruiz.

Chooch Crosses The Plate In The 2nd

He went 3 for 4 in the cleanup position, was dazzling defensively, and he soldiered on after a foul ricocheted off his wrist. He was joined on the top floor by Cole Hamels, Juan Pierre, Freddy Galvis and Hunter Pence.

Hamels dominated the Nats with 8 scoreless frames, permitting only 4 hits and punching out 8. He escaped a no-out, man on third jam in the 8th.

Greenhouse Cholley was beaming after Magic Juan successfully executed a suicide-squeeze bunt in the 7th.

The Leather Warehouse was packed with shutout-preserved fielding. Chooch made a spectacular catch and tag after a powerful, accurate throw from Hunter, highlighting both gloves in the 6th. Galvis made a sparkling over-the-shoulder grab to prevent a no-out runner at third from scoring in the 8th.

WELCOME, NEWCOMERS:

I will publish after every battle that is not washed out. The Phillies finished last summer 42 games over .500, which equaled a year of many positives. I will have many season-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats.

NITECAP INSIGHT

Jake The Snake:

That is a descriptive term and not a insult. When he pitches, he uncoils like a snake, and his offerings have a poisonous bite for left-handed batters. He is the southpaw we’ve been pining for to fan the dangerous left-swinging sticks in the late innings with a narrow lead.

Vic Pictured During His 3rd-Inning RBI Double

The ’pen is coming into focus. Jonathan Papelbon and Kyle Kendrick have their roles. Jose Contreras, Antonio Bastardo and Chad Qualls are the set-up men, when the 7th begins. That leaves 2 seats:  One goes to Diekman and Raul Valdes is battling for the other, like he wants it. Yes, 3 lefties in the relief corps.

Diekman has been a reliever since 2008, has changed his delivery, and he has worked hard to establish control consistency. I’m not saying that he is ready for anything other than a big LH-specialist spot. I don’t harbor any illusions of grand expectations. That said, Jake the Snake has been deadly to those in the right side of the batter’s box.

Joe Blanton:

He will bounce back from his subpar outing.  He is not an ace but he is not a bag of balls either.  He is 4-3 with a 3.61 ERA without the bullpen appearance.

Jake Westbrook:

He has been putting up strong early numbers but I don’t expect that to last.  He is an end-of-the-rotation arm.  He has lasted 6.1 frames or more in 7 of 8 attempts with 1 clunker.  That said, he is 2-1 with a 3.55 home ERA.  He is much better on the road.

MAC:

The program acronym is for Methodical Algorithmic Computerization or Mac.  That is the feed system that had dogged me an entire month, but it allows me now to probe for a compatible solution.  This only involves readers who were directed here from Fox Sports.  The links in this section were recently passed over by a computer’s judgment.  Does the national-and-all-major-sports machine understand Phillies commentary better than local fans?  I discovered that the buttons and lights objected the most to the storyline when I submitted only that part.  So, when the electrodes decide a Nitecap Insight isn’t to their liking, I’ll give my transferred readers a viewing opportunity the next day.  I’ll keep score of acceptable to rejected submissions, because I don’t want a large readership excluded or my time wasted.
