Jonathan Papelbon is a 1-out option for the Philadelphia Phillies in the 8th inning. Since that possibility would create another problem, what endgame hurlers are available?

Chooch Puts An Exclamation Point On His 8th-Inning Clout
Chooch stroked a 2-out single in the 1st to produce a 1-0 advantage, smacked a insurance-run bomb, and made 2 excellent defensive plays during his 3 for 4 night.
He was joined on the top floor by Michael Schwimer, John Mayberry Jr., Vance Worley and Polly Polanco. The Vanimal escaped 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out during the 1st, which included his fielding gem. Polly put the locals ahead by 1 with an RBI knock in the 2nd during his 2 for 4 evening. Schwimer shut down the Bucs with no outs, and both runners in scoring position to end the 7th. Mayberry cut down the potential tying tally at the dish to help the youngster.
The Leather Warehouse advertised a glove-flip out at the plate by Worley in the 1st. Big John gunned down a runner at home in the 7th. Chooch made a spectacular basket catch in the 8th on a low foul pop near the screen.
The House Of The Rising Son honored Schwimer for his big-time relief stint in the 7th, and did you notice how pumped he was?
In-House Final Rehab: 2B Chase Utley went 2 for 5 with a solo homer at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
I will publish after every battle that is not washed out. I will have many season-long highlights of puzzle pieces, especially important after drubbings and defeats. Chooch Rocks His 8th-Inning Souvenir Into The Crowd
At What Cost:
The brain trust has handed the 8th to Antonio Bastardo, which is a do-or-die proposition. If it works, they can acquire a right-handed reliever to compete with Schwimer and Chad Qualls for meaningful work in the 7th. However, there are some doubts, which means a search for the current talent available from the 7 franchises at the bottom of the 2nd-wild-card standings. The Cubs (14.5 out) and the Twins (10.5 back) don’t have righties worth pursuing. However, the ’Stros, Rox, Royals, Friars and M’s do have interesting candidates.
Chase Completes His Defensive Gem In The 6th At Triple-A Lehigh Valley
Aaron Crow ($.33M), Luke Gregerson ($.52M) and Tom Wilhelmsen ($.16M) are inexpensive, have low remaining greenback commitments and are under team control, which means a high cost in prospects or no deal. Matt Belisle is signed through 2013 with a $.25M buyout for 2014, but he is owed $1.4M (‘12) and $4.07M (‘13). That means Colorado can shed $5.5M, which they might consider. Then, there are 2 probable free agents with only $1.7M still on their contract, which are Brandon Lyon and Brandon League. Houston will look to unload Lyon, but League is the better bet. He was a closer until Seattle started grooming his replacement, which is Wilhelmsen.

League has hammer experience and would be a nice fit financially. However, the second wild card means more organizations will be buyers, and prices might be higher than usual. On the other hand, that will scare away a lot of marginal contenders, who could hang around to inflate the dollars. Rube Amaro could wait for more clubs–there are 2 or 3–to fall out of the race, or stall until he sees a reasonable swap. The minor leaguers for a rental would be low level or would not be the cream of what’s remaining, and 19 current competitors are not encouraging. Rube has a different, more challenging obstacle this July, which is why he started a few weeks ago.
This is a bullpen game, which will probably go with Joe Savery after Raul Valdez. Hopefully, both will supply 3 decent innings each, and Kyle Kendrick will go at least 6 tomorrow afternoon. Less is probably a problem for the weekend in Miami.
