WHO:                         Cole Hamels, Phillies Pitcher & co-founder of The Hamels Foundation Heidi Hamels, co-founder of The Hamels Foundation Principals Michael Graff, Sharen Finzimer, and Karen Thomas School District Officials Hamels Foundation Board Members Students and Teachers Sponsors and Donors WHAT:           This year, The Hamels Foundation will donate over $50,000 in grants to three Philadelphia schools. These grants will provide new musical instruments for Shawmont, library renovations for FS Edmonds, and an art kiln plus supplies for Cook-Wissahickon! The Hamels Foundation believes that these investments will provide significant improvement to the quality of students’ lives. “Through the generosity of Cole and Heidi Hamels, the future of Shawmont’s Instrumental Music Program is now secure! The timing of the grant is significant as the District’s financial deficits are so profound there was little hope of continuing next year. The funding has enabled the fulfillment of the promise that our Instrumental Music Program will be able to continue for all of our 600 students next year and beyond. WE are most grateful and appreciative of Cole and Heidi’s commitment to support Philadlephia’s children in ways that really make a difference in their lives.” – Principal Michael Graff, Shawmont Elementary School “Thank you to The Hamels Foundation for making FS Edmonds’ dream for a new, renovated library, become a reality! You believe in our power to succeed!” –  Principal Sharen Finzimer, FS Edmonds “We are thrilled that The Hamels Foundation has selected Cook-Wissahickon School to receive a grant to purchase and install a new kiln in our art studio. Our school community has a strong love of the arts, and this new addition will allow our students to explore facets of expression and design that otherwise would not be available to them. We are truly blessed to receive this award, and thank The Hamels Foundation for their ongoing efforts to support the education of all students in Philadelphia.” – Principal Karen Thomas, Cook-Wissahickon School  WHEN:           Monday, June 3, 2013 8:30 AM- Media Call Time 9 AM- Check Presentations and Musical Performance by Shawmont Elementary Interview Opportunities Available with Cole and Heidi Hamels including radio call-ins Please contact gn@thehamelsfoundation.org, 610-551-8800   WHERE:         Shawmont Elementary School 535 Shawmont Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19128   ABOUT THE HAMELS FOUNDATION: The Hamels Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the power of education by giving them the tools they need to achieve their goals.   The Hamels Foundation is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization founded by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi.
