Polanco the 8th inning hero Phillies vs. Cubs 4/30/12 QUICK HITS:

Philadelphia defeats Chicago 6-4. Series ends in 2-2 tie.

  • The Phillies lit up Cubs starter Chris Volstad for 4 runs in the 1st inning. 9 batters were brought to the plate.
  • Vance Worley had yet another impressive outing, tossing 7 innings of 5 hit, 1 run, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Unfortunately, the men in the 'pen weren't able to secure him the victory.
  • Chad Qualls allowed a 2 run home run after Antonio Bastardo allowed 1 run in the top of the 8th to bring the game to a 4-4 tie.
  • It was only the bullpen's 2nd blown lead of the season.
  • Placido Polanco, however, regained the lead for the Phillies in the bottom of the 8th with a 2-run double (scoring Juan Pierre and Jimmy Rollins).
  • That was all Jonathan Papelbon needed to secure his 8th save on the seaon.
  • If you want to see an insane stat on Paps so far on the young season, you should check out our Facebook page.
  • With the win, the Phils finish the month of April with an 11-12 record. Excluding last season's 18-8 start, the team finished no better than 2 games over .500 in 2008, 2009, or 2010.

The Phillies are back in action tonight when they head down to Atlanta to take on the Braves for a 7:10pm first pitch.
