The Philadelphia Phillies are closing in on a six-year extension worth $137.5mm, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.
An executive outside the Phillies organization speculated that the Phillies' offer to Hamels could be for at least six-years and $140 million. Not that shabby of an estimate.
If the deal goes through as it is reported, it would be the second largest contract ever given to a pitcher behind CC Sabathia's seven-year, $161MM deal with the Yankees.
Hamels, 28, is 11-4 with a 3.23 ERA, 1.1 HR/9, 2.2 BB/9 and 8.8 SO/9 in 133.2 innings with the Phillies this season.
