Add another infielder to the off-season wish list

In 2010 the Phillies will have a vastly different looking bench. With Matt Stairs, Miguel Cairo, and Paul Bako already on the free agent market, today the Phillies said so long to infielder Eric Bruntlett. Bruntlett accepted the chance to become a free agent and is not likely to return to the Phillies.

Bruntlett will forever have a special place in most fans' hearts for his important role in the 2008 World Series championship, scoring a pair of important runs in pinch running or pinch hitting appearances. He was often used as a defensive replacement for Pat Burrell but with the addition of Raul Ibanez Bruntlett's importance diminished. Never a threat at the plate Bruntlett did have the defensive play of the 2009 season for the Phillies when he turned an unassisted triple play in the ninth inning against the Mets to preserve a save for Brad Lidge.

While we will remember the brief memories that Bruntlett has given us Phillies fans, there is still no doubt that a replacement for Bruntlett should not be difficult to come across.

Bruntlett was eligible for arbitration, but is now a free agent.
