Ryan Howard has been part of Philadelphia Phillies teams that have gotten off to slow starts and wound up playing in the World Series, so he's not about to fret over beginning 2013 in less-than-ideal fashion. Though Philadelphia's bats have begun to come around, the Miami Marlins are still trying to find their stroke. The Phillies look to continue their hot hitting as they visit the sputtering Marlins to begin a three-game set Friday night. Howard started 4 for 27 with 10 strikeouts as Philadelphia dropped five of its first seven, but he homered in an 8-3 win Tuesday and went 2 for 4 in a 7-3 victory Wednesday as the Phillies took two straight from the New York Mets. Philadelphia (4-5) also struggled to start the 2008 and '09 seasons when it won back-to-back NL championships, including a World Series title in '08. "It's not about how you start, it's about how you finish," Howard told the team's official website. "I'd rather have a ...

Phillies fan gets drunk and then gets branded in the parking lot

Who said the hijinks of Philadelphia fans is relegated to what takes place inside the stadium? Take this guy, for instance, ya know, if you don’t mind seeing a bit of man butt. It appears this fan, who takes his drinking very seriously, decided it would be hysterical to let another member of his tailgating party to literally brand him with a red-hot barbecue spatula! Have fun explaining...

Is Philadelphia Phillies RHP Roy Halladay Over the Hill?

Is Roy Halladay over the hill? Probably. But that depends on what you think a hill is. He may be finished as a dominant major league starting pitcher, but really, that happens to every dominant major league starting pitcher. Halladay is a three-time 20-game winner, a two-time Cy Young winner, an eight-time all-star and he’s led the league in complete games seven different years...

Hold or Fold: Roy Halladay

Once we get past the first week of the season we get to the point where fantasy baseball players become nervous about certain players on their roster. There is an internal voice in every player’s head when the switch gets turned from “it’s early” to “I’m worried.” That switch is different for every fantasy player and each individual ML player has earned a certain amount...

Phillies Lineup vs Mets 4/10/2013

The Philadelphia Phillies look to win their first series of the year against the Mets behind Kyle Kendrick. Here is tonight’s Phillies lineup:

Phils Power Kendrick to 7-3 Win After Smooth Six

Brown mashed a Hefner pitch into the second deck in the first. Photo: AP Tonight’s game had all the makings of a disaster: Kyle Kendrick on the hill, up 5-1 in the second, with bases loaded immediately following a John Buck HR. It felt like what is now a too familiar story to the 2013 Phillies: a big early lead surrendered almost as quick. But then something remarkable happened...

Kyle Kendrick Gets The Ball As Phillies Look For First Series Win Of 2013

The Phillies whooped some Mets a** last night. With Cliff Lee on the mound and a wholloping set of home runs, the Phillies were able to even this three-game series at one-a-piece. Cliff Lee was spectacular once again last night. Nearly going the distance, but falling short at 8 2/3...

Chase Utley's Late-Inning Triple Gives Phillies 3-1 Win; Phillies At .500

With John Lannan and Ricky Nolasco on the hill making the start, it was sure that either tonight would be a slugfest, or tonight would be a pitcher's duel. Tonight's series opener was indeed a pitcher's duel through out most of the game. Ben Revere led off the game with...

Phillies 7, Mets 3: Utley, Brown power offense to win

It felt like "hittin' season" early Wednesday night as Chase Utley hit a two-run home run to dead center field for the second time this season and Domonic Brown launched a massive three-run home run to the 300 level down the right field line at Citizens Bank Park. The five-run outburst against Mets starter Jeremy Hefner was enough for the Phillies to pick up 7-3 victory...

Cliff Lee just miss pitching a complete game as the Phils’ bats come to life to beat the Mets, 8-3.

Cliff Lee is one out short of pitching a complete game as the Phils’ bats wake up to rout the Mets, winning 8-3. The Phils take the lead in the bottom of the second as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, John Mayberry Jr. hits a two-run double, knocking in Michael Young, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third base on Dom Brown’s single, and Brown...

Phillies 3, Marlins 1(10)

Chase Utley hit a go-ahead triple in the 10th inning off Jon Rauch, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat Miami 3-1 Friday night and dropped the Marlins to 1-9. Miami is off to the poorest start by a big league team since Baltimore and Houston lost nine of their first 10 games in 2010, according to STATS. The Marlins, held to four singles by John Lannan and four relievers, are batting...
