Philly Sports World:
Today at 4 PM, the MLB non-waiver trade deadline will come. What once looked like it could be an active sell off for the Philadelphia Phillies, may come and go with very little to no change.
In the past week, reports have surfaced that the Phillies and Chase Utley, in the final year of his contract, may be working toward an extension. While the thinking is that there aren’t many better options than Utley, there are certainly cheaper ones than the $13-15 million per that Utley is likely to command. So cross Utley off the list.
After a particularly embarrassing 12-4 loss to the Tigers this weekend, Jimmy Rollins was asked about potentially being moved. Rollins made it quite clear that he would not waive his no trade rights that come with being a 10/5 player (10 years of MLB service/5 with the same team). I’m not sure Rollins would have fetched a boat load of prospects, but you can cross him off too.
Michael Young, acquired in the offseason, has been a logical candidate to ship off ...

Third baseman Cody Asche has been on a torrid pace of late. Asche, a University of Nebraska product, is showing more and more that he’s ready for a bigger challenge. The 23-year-old lefty batter has gone 14-for-33 (.424 avg) along with three doubles, five homers and 12 RBI in his last eight contests with the IronPigs.
Overall this season, Asche, who...
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says that the Yankees offered a decent deal for Michael Young, but Ruben Amaro shot it down.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Phillies GM Ruben Amaro spoke on the phone around 3 p.m. ET Wednesday, an hour before the trade deadline, at which time Amaro confirmed what the Yankees had been reading in the media: Michael Young was willing to waive...
The Philadelphia Phillies have announced three names that are definitely off the trade market in Domonic Brown, Chase Utley, and Cole Hamels. However, the rumored Michael Young could get traded later on Tuesday as Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Pasan has indicated.

Although uncertain, Philadelphia Phillies ace Cliff Lee could miss his start on Friday, August 2, against the Atlanta Braves. MLB.com's Stephen Pianovich reports that Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., has not yet decided if Lee will pitch on Friday due to Lee's stiff neck.
Lee missed his last scheduled start against the Detroit Tigers on July 26 with the neck...
Now that Jake Peavy and Matt Garza have found new homes, Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee is far-and-away the top starting pitcher remaining on the trade market. However, it sounds like Lee may not be going anywhere, as Jim Bowden of ESPN reports that the southpaw is not going to be traded today.
Cliff Lee is not getting traded today according to #source
We will always have the dropped fly ball. The Phillies will make room for third baseman Cody Asche by designating for assignment outfielder Steve Susdorf. Susdorf was 1 for 7 and started one game for the Phillies. Plenty of parts are on the move, but for now it appears Michael...
24 hours remain for teams to sell, buy and trade their players in an effort to either clear house or improve their roster for a play off run. The Phillies are definite sellers this July 31st, but so far have not made a fire sale. Unlike last year when the...
The Red Sox are reportedly looking to add a starting pitcher before Wednesday’s MLB trade deadline passes, and one of the names that they’re supposedly interested in is Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee. And while the Phils are open to parting ways with Lee, a former Cy Young winner, they’re reportedly not willing to do so without receiving a valuable young piece in return.
The Philadelphia Phillies have one day to decide their future. Michael Young, Chase Utley, Jonathan Papelbon, Cliff Lee and Carlos Ruiz are veterans, leaders, gold glovers, silver sluggers, clutch performers, world champions and cy youngers. But now, they are trade bait. This final day could bring a new era into Phillies baseball, or it could [...]

There’s some major news out of Philadelphia today. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports says reported that the Phillies have called up Cody Asche from the minor leagues, which would preclude a trade of Michael Young. The report has since been confirmed by Todd Zolecki.
The New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox were the teams showing the most interest...
Brian Cashman failed to bring in a bat at the trade deadline yesterday, but it wasn’t due to lack of effort. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. just wasn’t having any of it, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
According to Heyman, Cashman and Amaro spoke on the phone around 3 pm yesterday – an hour before the deadline. Cashman offered to send a prospect AND pay the remaining $5...

Today at 4 PM is the trade deadline. The rumors are swirling. Post will be updated periodically.
- Cody Asche was called up yesterday, in what people thought could be a precursor to a Michael Young trade.
- One “source” says Cliff Lee will not be traded.
- Michael Young is now said to be willing to waive his NTC to go to Boston.
I am undecided as to whether re-signing Chase Utley to an extension is a good thing; if Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard were not all signed long-term I might think differently. But it appears that the Phillies are not working on a trade for Chase Utley; in fact they are...
