Philadelphia Phillies veteran reliever Jose Contreras is scheduled to have his elbow examined this week.
Contreras underwent elbow surgery in early September after missing more than two months with a right forearm strain.
In November, the team said the plan was for Contreras to resume throwing in January and be ready for spring training.
The 40-year-old Cuban righthander had five saves and a 3.86 ERA in 17 games last season.

Yesterday afternoon, the Phillies announced that they had added two more non-roster invitees to Clearwater for Spring Training this season. Among the fifteen invitees, eight are pitchers, two are catchers, and five are position players.. With the Phillies nearly having a full roster, there will only be few spots open with the big league club.
