Philadelphia Phillies veteran reliever Jose Contreras is scheduled to have his elbow examined this week. Contreras underwent elbow surgery in early September after missing more than two months with a right forearm strain. In November, the team said the plan was for Contreras to resume throwing in January and be ready for spring training. The 40-year-old Cuban righthander had five saves and a 3.86 ERA in 17 games last season.

Phillies Invite Fifteen Players To Clearwater
