Wow.   What a collapse.  The Phillies were just inches away from closing within 7 games of a wild card spot and keeping some playoff chances alive, though remind.  Instead, the Phillies would end the game 9 games behind the Braves in the Wild Card race and 8 games behind St. Louis. This game had "Phillies sweep" written all over it.  The Phillies scored five runs...

Carlos Ruiz May Sit the Rest of this Season Out For the Phillies

In this quick blurb from, Carlos Ruiz spoke about possibly just missing the remaining month of the season to reccover: "I don't want to come back and the injury happens again. I don't try to push it too much -- just taking it nice and easy with my running. If I feel something, stop. But so far, I feel real good. It'll be a little hard. It's not completely...

Sage veteran, youth served during Phillies 4-1 win

Tyler Cloyd pitched seven one run baseball and Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run home run to pace the Phillies to a 4-1 win over the Reds. The game was a bounce-back from yesterday’s too tough for words, well almost, an 8-7 loss in the finale against Atlanta. Rollins, for all his ups and downs, provides power at the leadoff spot. Monday was no exception, as he slugged a three-run home...

Hope is Gone…Phillies Get Stunned!

Jonathan Papelbon quietly packed his red Phillies travel bag in the visitor’s clubhouse Sunday night at Turner Field. The closer had just served up a three-run home run to Braves third baseman Chipper Jones in the bottom of the ninth inning in a brutal 8-7 loss. Papelbon is paid big money to close games, so any time he blows one he is upset. But this one had a different feeling...

WP: Josh Lindblom (3-3, 3.58 ERA) LP: Cristhian Martinez (5-4, 4.39 ERA) SV: Jonathan Papelbon (31) Ryan Howard didn't receive the nickname "Big Piece" for no good reason.  He jump-started this crucial series down in Atlanta in the Phillies favor, with a home run in the top of the second to give the Phillies the early lead. In the bottom...

Phillies double up the Redlegs, 4-2

Johnny Cueto's bid to become the majors' first 18-game winner fell short on Monday as the Reds (82-54) were edged out by the Philadelphia Phillies (65-70), 4-2. Jimmy Rollins smacked a 3-run homer in the fifth that proved to be all the visitors needed on a soggy Labor Day in Cincinnati. Despite the loss, Dusty Baker's club still enjoys the largest division...

Phillies Win Over The Braves, Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive!

With an 8-5 win tonight over the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies are now only 8 games out of the Wild Card. If they sweep the Braves, they will only be 6 games out — with 3 more games against them come Mid-September. The Phillies need to cover 3 games + sweep these 2 series, to make the playoffs? Not impossible! Erik Kratz survived a crushing hit at home plate in the fourth inning...
