Philadelphia Phillies righthander Joe Blanton will start Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves.
The National League East champion Phillies were contemplating starting one of the members of the bullpen for that contest, in an effort to keep its starting rotation fresh for the postseason.
Blanton (1-2, 5.03 ERA) was the team's fifth starter at the beginning of the season, but injuries - as well as the emergence of rookie Vance Worley - have pushed him to the bullpen.
The Braves could wrap up a postseason berth on Tuesday - or have their fate in their hands on Wednesday.
