The Philadelphia Phillies will atemmpt to re-sign free agents Ryan Madson and Jimmy Rollins, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Madson is part of a closer pool in free agency that includes Jonathan Papelbon, Heath Bell and Joe Nathan. He moved from the eighth-inning role this season and was 4-2 with 32 saves in 34 chances and a 2.37 ERA.
Madson's value to the Phillies was increased when the team declined the 2012 option on oft-injured Brad Lidge, whom Madson replaced as closer.
The report said the Phillies had contacted Scott Boras, the agent for Rollins, several times in recent days, looking to initiate conversation.
"Jimmy knows we'd like to bring him back," Phillies general mananer Ruben Amaro Jr. told the newspaper. "We've been playing phone tag a little bit with (Boras)."
