There is nothing better than a little pre-game music to jazz up the mood.Just ask the Tampa Bay Rays, who hired a disc jockey, DJ Fresh to be precise, to crank up the jams prior to their game against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The photo (seen above) shows him spinning tracks in the middle of the Rays' locker room.Right on, Tampa."Whatever allows these guys to relax and permits them to play to the best of their abilities…I'm for it," said Rays manager Joe Maddon.Apparently, the use of motivational melodies worked. It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't exciting, but Maddon's bunch pulled out an old fashioned, 1-0, victory over the A's at Tropicana Field. Rays pitchers allowed just three hits and one walk in the affair.Via MLB Cut4

Rays loosen things up with DJ... in clubhouse

Joe Maddon is resourceful in many ways. Loose clubhouse rules, themed dress-up road trips and other laissez-faire approaches have made the Tampa Bay Rays one of the majors; most interesting franchises since he became manager before the 2006 season. Add a DJ-in-the-clubhouse idea as the latest example of his uncommon, but cool perspective. Things had become a little tense around Tropicana...

State of the Rays: Good to be back home

To this point, the Tampa Bay Rays season has been a display in the ever-changing flow of a major league season, from the slump to a streak, from struggle to recovery then back to some degree of consistency. A 162-game campaign is so long, after all, that variety is the norm, the movement between poor to average to excellent a fluid and constant process. Consider the past six days...
