I absolutely hate recapping games like this one. Just like an NFL team feeds off the quarterback, I believe baseball teams can feed off the starting pitcher in that same way.
The Mets lost a sleeper to the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 7-3 tonight at a sparsely filled Citi Field.
Shaun Marcum was making his third start of the season for the Mets and once again failed to last five innings. The truth is he’s looked awful every time out there, but tonight was the worst we’ve seen yet. Marcum, now 0-3, saw his ERA balloon to 8.59 for the season after surrendering six earned runs on nine hits, two hit-batters and a home run in 4.2 innings tonight against the Bucs.
In the second inning he allowed five straight Pirates to reach base and at this point I’m ready to declare him a $4 million dollar bust. I’ve seen enough.
