The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed right handed pitcher Logan Kensing, and have made the signing of left handed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes official, per a team press release. Both pitchers were signed to minor league deals with invites to Spring Training. We heard about the Reyes deal yesterday from Jenifer Langosch. Kensing, 29, spent the 2011 season with the Yankees’ AAA affiliate after missing the 2010 season recovering from elbow surgery. He was originally a second-round pick by Florida in 2003. In his career in the majors, Kensing has a 5.81 ERA in 161 innings, with an 8.0 K/9 and a 4.9 BB/9 ratio. His best season was in 2008 when he made 48 appearances, with a 4.23 ERA in 55.1 innings, along with an 8.9 K/9 and a 5.4 BB/9 ratio. Both pitchers will likely be used as depth out of AAA.

Pirates sign Jo-Jo Reyes to minor league deal

Jen Langosch is reporting tonight that the Pirates have signed lefty Jo-Jo Reyes to a minor league deal and from Reyes' own tweet, it's probably safe to assume that he'll be a non-roster invite to spring training. Reyes spent 2011 with the Blue Jays and Orioles after being traded from the Braves to the Royals in 2010. He was drafted by the Braves in the second round...

Pirates sign Jo-Jo Reyes and Logan Kensing

The Pirates announced 2 minor league deals over the past 2 days. Yesterday, the Bucs signed lefty starter Jo-Jo Reyes, who started 25 games between Baltimore and Toronto last year. Over 140 2/3 innings, he went 7-11 with a 5.57 ERA. Reyes should serve as AAA depth and will probably only sniff the Major League roster if there are multiple injuries. Today, the club announced the signing...

Pirates sign Jo-Jo Reyes to Minor League deal

The Pirates have signed lefty Jo-Jo Reyes to a minor league deal, which will likely include an invitation to spring training. Reyes is 27 and has been terrible in the big leagues. His career ERA is 6.05 and he just tied the major league record for most consecutive starts without a win (28 before snapping it with a complete game in May). Wins are a terrible indicator of a pitcher’s...

Pirates Sign Jo-Jo Reyes

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed left handed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes to a minor league deal, according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. We heard the Pirates were interested in Reyes back in December. Reyes is 27 yeas old and had a career 6.05 ERA in 334.2 innings in the majors. In that time he has a 5.8 K/9, a 3.9 BB/9, and a 1.5 HR/9 ratio. He’s a good flier to take on a minor league...

Pirates sign Logan Kensing

In announcing the signing of Jo-Jo Reyes to a minor league deal, the Pirates also announced that Logan Kensing will get a minor league deal and an invite to spring training. Kensing's a reliever who's spent most of his career with the Marlins, and he spent 2011 in the Yankees' system. He hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2009, as he missed all of 2010 with an injury...

News and notes

Bucs news and notes for the day… The Bucs signed Logan Kensing to a minor league deal today. Kensing is a 29 year old reliever that has bounced around and struggled during his time in the majors. He throws hard, but I don’t anticipate seeing him in Pittsburgh unless a bunch of the current bullpen guys go down. The Pirates continued to reconfigure their scouting department with...
