Phillies-polanco-bats
We may have just witnessed the farewell tour of Placido Polanco in Major League Baseball, as he was placed on the DL yet again.  He certainly didn't garner the same amount of fanfare as Chipper Jones has this year in his final season.  Of course Polly hasn't called it a career yet, that's merely speculation on my part. Polly's second tour of duty with the Phillies did not go as well as his first.  Old age, injuries, and diminishing skills have left a bit of a sour taste in some fans mouths (blame Amaro for the contract).  However, I would like to take this time to acknowledge the good that Polanco did during his career.AVG - .299OPS - .747H - 2044G - 1809YR - 15  AS - 2GG - 2WAR - 38.7FLD% - .993 Polly has been one of the best fielding players in the history of the game.  He's as sure-handed as they come, having only committed 36 errors, Jose Offerman botched more plays than that in one season.  It's not like he was camping out left field either, he primarily...

Phillies Odds and Ends – Rain Out, Charlie Will Be Back, Polanco May Not Be Back & Injury Updates

The Philadelphia Phillies entered play Saturday at 67-71 (Saturday’s game was rained out). They are only 4 games under .500, and 7 games out of the final Wild Card spot with 24 games to go. The Phillies and Rockies will now play a double header. First game will be at 1:05, the second at 6:35. The Phillies activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the disabled list on Friday. Ruiz had...

In a Surprising Move, Phillies Activate Catcher Carlos Ruiz from the Disabled List; Disable Polanco

Wow, I did not see this coming. As recently as last week, the Phillies seemed to indicate that Carlos Ruiz would not be back in 2012.  Given the Phillies incredibly small odds of a postseason birth and the danger of playing on an injured ankle, I personally did not expect to see Chooch again in 2012. But, according to CSN Philly.com, Ruiz has been activated from the disabled...

Chipper Jones not in lineup for last game at Mets

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is out of the starting lineup for his last game in New York against the Mets, a bittersweet finish against the team he's tormented throughout his 19 seasons in the major leagues. Jones says he told manager Fredi Gonzalez on Saturday night that he needed the day off, but now says he's feeling better. Jones says he'll ''be pleading...

Chipper Jones honored on last trip to Mets park

NEW YORK (AP) -- Every which way Chipper Jones turned at Citi Field, someone wanted to thank him. Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon presented the Atlanta star with a pricey piece of 3-D artwork. A policeman gave him a firm handshake, an usher provided a pat on the back. A man intercepted Jones in the hallway near the clubhouse, reached into a shopping bag and handed over...

New York pub changes name to “Chipper’s” for the weekend to honor Chipper Jones

The Chipper Jones farewell tour that has been making its way across the country since the season began is slowly coming to an end. With time running out on the career of the future Hall of Famer there are only a few more road games left for the Braves before the playoffs start, [...]

One Last Artificial Sweetner

Figures the Braves would provide a storybook ending to Larry Jones' career in New York. And it figures that Larry would only be gracious to a point: Enjoyed my last experience in the NYC. Thx to the Mets org and the fans for rolling out the red carpet. Sweeps r extra sweet in New york!! — Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) September 10, 2012 To those who cheered him when he was...

Jones gets farewell from Mets fans, Braves win

NEW YORK (AP) -- Mets fans cheered the loudest for Chipper Jones once he was out of their ballpark for good. When he took the lineup card to home plate before his last game in Queens, Jones got some scattered applause. When he pinch hit in the ninth, he received cheers in full voice -- along with some boos, of course. Jones walked, and once a pinch runner came in to replace him...

Braves 3, Mets 2(10)

Chipper Jones and the Braves got the better of the Mets one more time. Brian McCann homered and drove in the go-ahead run in extra innings to give Atlanta a 3-2 win over the Mets on Sunday in Chipper Jones' final game in New York. Jones did not start, but manager Fredi Gonzalez sent him out with the lineup card before the game and the retiring Braves star got a warm hand from...

Mark Simon Nails It On Chipper

I must have read a dozen or so articles on what Mets fans should or shouldn’t do as Chipper Jones brings his farewell tour to Flushing for one last goodbye. In a post entitled, “Honor Chipper? Not So Fast”, Mark Simon of ESPN concludes with the following: Maybe it seems a bit dopey to say this, but wouldn’t a more fitting tribute be to serenade him a few times with a ...

As Good As David Wright Is, He’s Not Chipper Jones

I am a David Wright fan.  I’ve been an ardent supporter of the Mets’ third baseman since his first call-up to the big leagues in 2004.  I’ve seen him produce some of the greatest offensive seasons in franchise history and I’ve seen him make outstanding defensive plays.  I’ve also seen him represent the Mets at the All-Star Game more often that not. I have never been...
