The Daily Stache:
Santana tossed 8 scoreless innings to lower his season ERA to 2.76 on the year.
The Mets beat the Dodgers by a score of 5-0 today, clinching a series victory against the Dodgers.
Johan Santana was dominant tonight to follow up Dickey’s dominating start last night. Santana went 8 scoreless only giving up 3 hits. The key for Santana tonight was he was successfully able to keep his changeup down in the strike zone, and Santana was able to keep his pitch count low in the middle innings. This weak Dodgers’ lineup has stood no chance the past two days, as both Dickey and Santana shut them out.
Overall it is huge for this team having two ace type pitchers. Everytime Santana or Dickey take the mound I feel that the Mets have a strong chance to win the game.
The Mets scored on two sacrifice flies early on and then Ike Davis hit a three run homer in the 6th inning. This homer sunk the Dodgers and the Mets cruised to an easy 5-0 win.
Tomorrow the Mets will look to sweep the Dodgers on the road with Dillon Gee taking on Clayton Kershaw. The game is on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and the start time is approximately 8:15pm on ESPN.
Game Ball: Johan Santana for his 8 inning start
Turning Point of The Game: Ike’s 3 run jack- put the game out of reach for LA.
BEST OF MAXIM
Today the 2012 All Stars were announced, and Mets 3rd baseman David Wright was absolutely screwed. Wright who is second in the NL in batting with a .354 average (as of this posting), second in doubles, third in hits, and seventh in fielding.
Wright has had a story book first half, easily a first half MVP candidate, but to be snubbed by the fans as an All Star starter is obscene.
The Mets 3rd
As the calendar turns to July we shift our attention from the pitchers that we covered last weekend to the hitters this weekend. Remember when so many critics said the Mets have no prospects in the minor leagues? Well they may not have the best but they definitely have some solid pieces on the way.

Ike Davis surged above the mendoza line on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, collecting two hits in four at-bats during the New York Mets 5-0 victory over the Dodgers:

The New York Mets were unable to complete a four game sweep agains the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday Night as they fell by the score of 8-3. The Mets committed three errors in the game as the Los Angeles bats awoke from their week-long slumber just in time...
When a pitcher throws two consecutive one-hitters, people take notice. When a pitcher with R.A. Dickey's unique back story does it, the result is a mass media overflow. Leading up to his uncharacteristically spotty start Sunday, the New York Mets' sensation fielded countless media requests on a daily basis, cutting into his preparation. Mets manager Terry Collins believes...
The trading deadline is just over a month away and the New York Mets are in a unique position as buyers. The team's good first half and addition of the second wild card to the playoff format makes it more likely the Mets will have a chance to clinch a playoff spot. The problem, however, is that the second playoff spot opens up the race to a lot of teams, creating...

NL Wild Card Standings:
Hey, it’s been a rough week for the Mets and guess what, they’re still right in the mix. This team has been fighting all season, and I don’t see it stopping anytime soon. The Mets will hopefully be buyers at the trade deadline, and we must remember that Mike Baxter is going to join this club again this season (which is kind of like...
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says Ben Sheets will pitch Sunday against the New York Mets, his first major league start in almost two years.
Sheets, the former Milwaukee Brewers ace, had a bullpen session Thursday. Gonzalez said the Braves will make a roster move before Sheets makes his first big league start since July 19, 2010.
Atlanta signed Sheets to a minor league contract...
I have been trying to figure out which of the $100 million contracts is the worst in baseball. I believe that I have figured it out. I know there will be disagreement and I know some may argue. However, I believe I have my answer. Although I hear he is one of the nicest guys in the game of baseball, I believe that the New York Mets contract signing of Jason Bay is the worst...

The Mets are right in it all, and we’re almost at the halfway point. The Mets are playing great baseball and can hopefully keep it up. They just have to stay healthy, and keep playing how they been playing all season long. Let’s go Mets!
