Game Notes
  • Citi Field is the third home of the New York Mets, preceded by the Polo Grounds and then Shea Stadium.
  • Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza are scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Citi Field. The duo also tossed the final pitch at Shea Stadium back in September.
  • Other notable Mets alumni attending tonight's game are Rusty Staud, Darryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, John Franco, and Ralph Kiner.
  • The Mets are currently 0-2 when playing in a new home stadium, losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 in both 1962 and 1964.
Finally, Citi Field is open. The day has come to completely put Shea Stadium behind us, and welcome in the days of Citi Field. Mets' starter Mike Pelfrey gets the start tonight in this historic game against a team he has had some success against so far in his young career, needing to bounce back from his shaky outing last week. He'll need to be on top of his game tonight against this red-hot Padres team.

Personally, I don't care much for the opening ceremonies and I don't care much for Seaver and Piazza throwing out the first pitch; I just want to see the Mets play some quality baseball. It's too bad Johan Santana couldn't have thrown his gem from yesterday tonight, that would have been awesome.

Enough chatting, let's play ball...Let's Go Mets!!
