Found November 18, 2008 on Dom D's Mets Fan Blog:
Mets beat writer Marty Noble gave his take on some the Mets upcoming plans that involved Pedro Martinez, Oliver Perez, Derek Lowe and other pitchers that can help out in the bullpen.

  • Noble said Pedro Martinez wants to pitch 2009 , but the Mets hierarchy thinks his days are numbered as a Met. They realize Pedro is 37 and his better days behind him.
  • The Mets intend to stay in contact with Scott Boras who represents Oliver Perez and Derek Lowe. The Mets will most likely make offers to both of them, but they realize that Boras might price Perez off the Mets. In that case, the Mets will try to land Lowe to fill his shoes. The Mets know both of them will not come cheap..
  • The Mets are still in pursuit for a closer. They would still like to go the free agent route. The Mets are waiting for medical records before they can talk dollars and cents. The front runners appear to be Frankie "K-Rod" Rodriguez and Brian Fuentes.
  • Noble asked if the Mets had any interest in Huston Street who is on the trade block and one Mets Official said, "we looked into Street, he's better than what we have". The Mets would like to use Huston Street as a eight inning guy if they traded for him.
