Reading Between The Seams:
Baffling the League
Tonight, the New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 4-0, but the real talk is of the amazing story of R.A. Dickey. With his one-hit shut-out, Dickey became the first MLB pitcher to throw back-to-back one-hitters since Dave Stieb, of the Toronto Blue Jays, completed the feat in 1988. The accomplishment had not been done in the National League since Jim Tobin did it in 1944. Dickey also becomes the first player in Major League history to throw back-to-back complete game one-hitters with 10+ strikeouts. Tonight, Dickey fanned 13 while striking out 12 on Wednesday. Tonight’s lone hit came of the bat of Wilson Betemit in the fifth inning.
R.A. Dickey has a story to tell. He recently opened up about being sexually abused as a child and overcoming years of self-doubt. While struggling to make it as a Major League pitcher, Dickey turned to the knuckleball as a last resort. Well, let’s just say he’s mastered the pitch. Dickey is now 11-1 with a 2.00 ERA and is making a serious run for the Cy Young.
R.A. Dickey is the 1st pitcher with consecutive 1-hitters since Dave Stieb in 1988. He’s the 1st NL pitcher since Jim Tobin in 1944.

BEST OF MAXIM
R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets has been about as dominant as humanly possible over the past few weeks, and it has put him in a spectacular position in the NL Cy Young race.
R.A. Dickey’s amazing start to 2012 has him leading Cy Young discussion in the National League.
Dickey has been extremely impressive over his past several starts, baffling batters with his unhittable...
Once again Star Wars aficionado, RA Dickey not only pitched another one hit gem, but stopped the latest Mets skid.
Dickey has unquestionably become the Mets ace, and is presently 11-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Last night he stymied the upstart Baltimore Orioles by limiting them to one hit, a non-threatening single to right field by Wilson Betiment in the fifth inning, breaking up Dickey's latest quest
R.A. Dickey (credits below) It was another amazing night in the MLB landscape, a one hitter and a cycle. The RA Dickey story continues as he one hit the Orioles last night, the knuckle baller was dealing and came away with 13 K's. Dickey is ranked an amazing number 3 overall in the Yahoo! game, this is an incredible story, although now might be a wise time to sell high...
R.A. Dickey became the first major league pitcher in 24 years to throw consecutive one-hitters and Ike Davis hit a grand slam to lead the New York Mets past the Baltimore Orioles 5-0 on Monday night.
Coming off a one-hit gem at Tampa Bay last Wednesday, the knuckleballer struck out a career-high 13 and allowed only Wilson Betemit's clean single in the fifth inning.
For a team that has made an art out of turning great players into no-names, of not leading high society but being bilked by it, and of finding new and creative ways to drop fly balls, the Mets are remarkably resilient. Each year, they break out the bats and balls again, and every few seasons they bring in something new to stir the fan base. But this year, the Mets looked as bad coming...
NEW YORK -- Immediately after R.A. Dickey completed his latest masterpiece Monday night, the Citi Field scoreboard flashed a picture of Dickey along with the phrase "Really Awesome." "Really Absurd" might be the better phrase. Dickey continued a dynamic run of pitching that almost defies description Monday by throwing his second straight one-hitter to lead...
The knuckleball is a difficult pitch to hit because of its unpredictable movement. But few analyses have ever looked at another component of the knuckleball: its speed.
According to the man himself, R.A. Dickey varies the speed on his knuckleball according to the situation. But how much, and in what way? Is this a common feature of knuckleballers, or relatively unique to Dickey...
In my mind, the only way R.A. Dickey doesn't start the All-Star game for the N.L. after his second straight one-hitter (first time since Dave Stieb in '88), is if Tony La Russa all of a sudden decides he wants to manage to win the game and save Dickey for that tie game situation where he can enter the game in the 12th and go a million innings. La Russa would be dickish (no...
IKE DAVIS: Singled in the second inning yesterday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Davis is hitting .478 (11-23) during the span…The streak is the second longest of Davis’ career and trails only an 11-game run last season from April 17-April 29. He is tied for second in the NL and tied for fifth in the majors with 12 walks this month.
LUCAS DUDA: Singled...
