That phrase was made famous by comedian Rodney Dangerfield.  These days, it could be used in reference to R.A. Dickey, and knuckleballers in general.  It couldn’t have been more evident in what we saw take place during this week’s All-Star game. Dickey was one of the few feel good stories we’ve seen in baseball this year.  Major League Baseball had the chance to do the right thing and start Dickey.  Tony Larussa could have given Dickey the respect he deserved.  They blew it. It’s clear that baseball still has no respect for the knuckleballer. The knuckleballer considers what they do an art form…baseball traditionalists consider it a gimmick pitch. There’s just no respect in the game for a guy whose fastball touches 85mph with a strong wind behind him.  After all, the knuckleball is a pitch that pitchers learn to throw to try and hang on to their careers for a few more years after they are washed up. Who knows, maybe Dickey would be doing your taxes in 2013 if he hadn’t developed his...

Dickey not sharp in Mets' loss

R.A. Dickey has seen too much go wrong at Turner Field to believe he can waltz to an easy win. ''You don't ever want to take anything for granted here, and that's a tip of the hat to their lineup,'' he said. ''Every out is important, no matter how you get it.'' Jason Heyward singled to cap a three-run rally and the Atlanta Braves took advantage...

R.A. Dickey Only Pawn in MLB ASG Ratings Game

Braves Blitz The Mets With Eighth Inning Rally And Lose 8-7

The Mets drop a close game to the Braves, 8-7. Summary I hate when we lose games like this. It always feels so tough to stomach. Time to get right into it. RA Dickey started this one, his first start after being snubbed for the AS game start he deserved, and looked a little rusty. He allowed five earned runs in five innings pitched, off eight hits and two walks – and he struck...

Jered Weaver, R.A. Dickey Early Favorites to Win Cy Young Award

With Major League Baseball on its All-Star Break until regular season games resume on Friday, Bovada has posted updated MLB player awards props involving the Cy Young and MVP in each league. The Red Sox thought they had two potential Cy Young candidates in the spring in Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, but pitchers have disappointed as Boston was just 12-20 in their 32 starts during...

Well. That stunk: Mets pitching a no-show during weekend sweep

What a weekend.  The New York Mets strolled into Atlanta on Friday evening looking to improve on their then 46-40 record.  Instead the Mets received poor pitching performances from Chris Young, R.A. Dickey, and Johan Santana leading to a three-game sweep moving NY 3  1/2 games behind the Division Leading Washington Nationals as well as 3 1/2 games behind the Wild Card leading...

R.A. Dickey is the best thing to happen to Fox since Ryan Seacrest

As much as I hate to admit it, Tony La Russa’s decision not to start R.A. Dickey in Tuesday’s All-Star Game turned out to be a good one. Good for Fox. Good for Baseball. I might have cursed La Russa for not starting Dickey. I might have questioned Buster Posey’s manhood for his ability (or lack there of) to catch a knuckleball. Nonetheless, ratings for the All-Star telecast...
