The difference in this game turned out to be a run the Giants got in the 1st inning when Fred Lewis stole home. It was a double steal and Soto didn't even look Lewis back to 3rd and he took off once Soto threw it to 2nd. What could have been? Too bad, too. Jason Marquis was excellent. He sent down 15 in a row at one point, pitched 7 innings and allowed only 2 runs. The Cubs tried to make it interesting in the 9th when Lee led off with a triple to right-center field. Soto knocked him in with a single and Fontenot got an infield hit putting the tying run in scoring position for Ryan Theriot. Theriot, Mr. Clutch, struck out. Cain was just better than Marquis. Not much you can do about that. The Cardinals lost so the Cubs keep their 2.5 game lead in the division.
