The former big league Catcher is from New London, Connecticut. He entered the draft after high school, he was selected in the 3rd round of the 1989 Draft to the New York Mets.
He was in the minors until April 1995 where he got 2 MLB AB’s (Brook had 1 hit that season, he was on pace to shatter Ted Williams’ batting average record). The next season Fordyce joined the Cincinnati Reds, and only played in 4 games. In 1997 Brook played in 47 games and hit .208. The next season he did a little better and hit .253 in 57 games. The next season in 1999 Fordyce was traded to the White Sox for Jake Meyer and he actually hit well. He hit 9 bombs, drove in 49, and hit .297.
In the middle of the 2000 season, Fordyce was packaged with some minor leaguers and traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Harold Baines and Chris Johnson. In total of the 2000 season he had 14 homeruns, 49 RBI’s, and batted .301 (he hit .322 when with the Orioles). And in 2001 just when we thought Fordyce was a reliable catcher he hit .209 and followed that with a .231 BA the next season. But once again Fordyce bounced back and hit 6 homeruns with a batting average of .273.
In 2004, his last season, Fordyce played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He batted .205.
No dice for Brook Fordyce. Jk he almost made 10 million playing baseball.
