The epidemic of injuries that has hit the Texas Rangers in recent weeks had been contained to the pitching staff.

Until Tuesday.

First baseman Mitch Moreland felt his left hamstring "grab pretty good," as he leaned forward to try to beat out the back end of a bases-loaded, inning-ending double play in the second inning Tuesday in the Rangers' 7-3 win over the San Diego Padres.

Moreland left the game immediately, and he will undergo an MRI exam Wednesday. Rangers officials are braced for the test to confirm a strain of the hamstring that will require a disabled-list stay. General manager Jon Daniels said, however, the team won't bring a player to San Diego on Wednesday in anticipation of a DL move. Any move would be made before the start of the upcoming homestand on Friday.

The Rangers won't try to get too creative to fill the first base spot while Moreland is out. They can use a combination of Michael Young, who replaced Moreland on Tuesday, Mike Napoli and Brandon Snyder.

"That's a pretty good assessment," manager Ron Washington said. "We can figure out a way to handle first base."

Moreland's replacement on the 25-man roster will probably be a pitcher. The Rangers could call up Roy Oswalt to start Friday's game and return Scott Feldman to the bullpen, once again giving the team seven relievers.
