MLB Injury News:
In a move that is common when a player is rehabbing from an injury, the Texas Rangers have shifted Joakim Soria to Double-A for his next rehab appearance. Soria is recovering from Tommy John surgery and has not pitched at all this season or last season. The Rangers want to make sure they keep him close to home as he continues to test the elbow.
Master Tesfatsion of MLB.com says Soria has been assigned to Double-A Frisco for his next appearance. Soria was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock, but they are hitting the road and going to Nashville, Tennessee. Moving Soria to Frisco keeps him in Texas. Tesfatsion says Soria could rejoin the Rangers at some point next week.
Teams can keep a player on a rehab assignment for 20 days once they announce that the player is going on the assignment. In Soria's case, the Rangers will likely keep him on close to that long. Considering how long it has been since he pitched, the team would surely want to make sure Soria got ample work in before returning him to the 25-man roster.

Soria last pitched for the Kansas City Royals in 2011. The 29-year old became the Royals closer full time in 2008. He went on to play for the Royals for five seasons. In that time, he amassed 160 saves and posted a 2.40 ERA. When he returns to the active roster in Texas, Soria will not be the closer. That's Joe Nathan's domain. But he can prove to be an important part of the bullpen.
