Backup infielder Andres Blanco is among five players that the American League champion Texas Rangers outrighted off their 40-man roster after each cleared waivers. The Rangers also outrighted infielder Esteban German and right-handers Omar Beltre, Eric Hurley and Merkin Valdez on Wednesday. Blanco wasn't on the postseason roster after missing six weeks during the season because of two stints on the disabled list with back problems. Right-hander Darren O'Day was claimed on waivers by the Baltimore Orioles, who put the pitcher on their roster. With the moves, Texas has 32 players on its 40-man roster.

Rangers keeping reliever Tateyama

ARLINGTON, Texas The Texas Rangers on Monday exercised the option on right-hander Yoshinori Tateyama's contract. The Rangers will pay Tateyama 1 million for the 2012 season. The veteran from Japan was signed by the Rangers in the offseason and started the season in Triple-A. He was recalled by the Rangers in May. Tateyama, 35, went 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 39 appearances with...

Rangers going after Albert Pujols 'unlikely'

IRVING, Texas It's been nearly a week since the Rangers somehow lost Game 6 of the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals, so fans across North Texas aren't far along in the recovery process. On the positive side, if such a thing exists, those of us who grew up here never envisioned a time when Rangers fans would be borderline despondent over not winning a World Series...

Rangers Ballpark to undergo renovations

ARLINGTON, Texas The visiting bullpen that caused St. Louis manager Tony La Russa so many problems in Game 5 of the World Series will be no more when the Texas Rangers start the 2012 season. The bullpen is being reconfigured, which is just one of the many renovations currently under way at Rangers Ballpark. Work on the visiting bullpen already was being planned before La Russa...

Deja Vu: Figuring Out Neftali Feliz's Role

October is over and that means it is officially time for the Rangers to move forward with their offseason work toward building their 2012 roster. One of the first questions they need to figure out is what role Neftali Feliz will fill on the pitching staff in 2012. Last year saw the team vacillating between using Feliz as a starter or a closer all the way through Spring Training...

Beltre the 11th Ranger to Win a Gold Glove

With his vacuum-like play at 3B, Rangers infielder Adrian Beltre became the 11th Texas Ranger to win a Gold Glove and the first since 2008. The Gold Glove is the third for Beltre in his career and he's won the award three out of the last five years.  The past two years it had been won by Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria. In 2011, Beltre had a .965 fielding percentage and had...

Beltre Punctuates Great Season

Take a moment, and take yourself back to the opening series of the season when the Texas Rangers swept the then-called "greatest team ever assembled" in the Boston Red Sox. In the second game of that series in Arlington, Rangers fans were officially introduced to the club's biggest off-season acquisition when former Red Sox third baseman Adrian Beltre drilled a pitch...

Detention Lecture: Your 2011 Texas Rangers

With the postseason now over, all 30 teams are facing an offseason filled with golf rounds and hot-stove strategery. But we're not going to let them start before we deal with the two World Series squads. No sir. No way. In an attempt to bring some closure between franchise and follower, we're giving Benjamin Morris of Lone Star Ball the opportunity to detain his team for...

2011 Texas Rangers = 1995 Cleveland Indians

The baseball season is now over. The St. Louis Cardinals are the World Champions. The Texas Rangers are not. On paper, the Rangers looked like the better team. Their offense was second to none in the Major Leagues. Up and down the Texas lineup were guys that hit for average and power. They had speed and on-base guys at the top, and run producers all the way down. Their bullpen offered...
