Posted in MetsBlogIn last night’s 2-1 win over the Phillies, Chris Young pitched seven scoreless innings, and while he did not factor into the decision, he lowered his ERA to 1.88 for the season.
He threw 97 pitches, 57 of which were strikes.
After the game, Young discussed the events of the night and his performance with reporters. During the discussion, Young basically said:
He got chills when he heard the crowd begin to chant “U-S-A!” and he was able to see the President’s address to the nation from the clubhouse.
The first thing that came to his mind upon hearing the news was a fire department that lost nine firefighters in the September 11th attacks which is close to his current residence on the Upper East side.
He thought the pitch that he struck Schneider out on to end the seventh could have easily been called a strike.
This start is a good one to build on and hopefully there is more where that came from.
