PLAYERS: Andrew Bailey
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox beat the Indians in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon, but the players might have saved their most heroic acts for after the game. Following the team’s 7-4 win over Cleveland, several players donned their jerseys to head back out onto the field at Fenway Park. Waiting for them there were several families from Newtown, Conn., who were attending “Connecticut Day” at the ballpark. The very charitable Andrew Bailey, who lives in Connecticut and visited Newtown over the winter, last #RedSox player on the field— Pete Abraham (@PeteAbe) May 25, 2013 Check out a photo of the scene below. Sox make 6 roster moves; Victorino and Middlebrooks to the DL

The Providence Journal's Tim Britton best sums up the flurry of Red Sox roster moves. Will Middlebrooks' back spasms last night are clearly a problem -- or perhaps this is a convenient way to get him a breath so he can work on a few things without being in games. The Victorino move is not surprising -- the guy last played on Monday. The other moves are a little surprising...

Betting on upcoming Red Sox games

With the new MLB season barely a few weeks underway, both the baseball and the betting action are beginning to heat up. The next match for the Boston Red Sox, who are amongst the sides considered to be in with a real shout of winning the American League this season, is against the Cleveland Indians – and given that there is a gap in quality between the two sides and a difference...

Stephen Drew Using Past Experiences to Push Himself In Season (Video)

The Red Sox signed short stop Stephen Drew to a one-year, $9.5 million free agent contract in the offseason, and Drew missed most of spring training because of a concussion. The season certainly did not start out as Drew had anticipated, but the short stop is slowly getting his groove in Boston. Drew is batting .205 with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and a .305 on-base percentage and his...

The Big Pitcher, part 2: Lackey's late life

The following is the second of five in a series focusing on the Red Sox starting pitchers.  Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer While starting pitching was a mixed mystery bag generally for the Red Sox coming into the season after an abysmal 2012 campaign, perhaps nobody was a bigger question mark specifically than John Lackey, who missed all of last year after undergoing...

Felix Doubront Showing Confidence From Recent Adjusments With Pitching Coach (Video)

Felix Doubront has had quite the roller coaster season. He’s been able to go from wildly out of control to poised and collected even within the same game at times. Working with a 5.44 ERA and a 3-2 record, the left-hander recently did some work in the bullpen with Red Sox pitching coach Juan Nieves, focusing on Doubront’s arm speed and finish through the strike zone. Doubront’s...

Red Sox top Indians 8-1 behind Lackey's pitching

John Lackey allowed two hits in seven innings, Mike Carp hit a three-run homer and the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 8-1 on a rainy Friday night. It was the second straight strong performance by Lackey, who missed all last season following Tommy John elbow surgery. Last Sunday he gave up one hit and one unearned run in six innings of a 5-1 win at Minnesota. He left that...

Lackey shines in Sox redemption win

(AP Photo/Charles Krupa) The weather sucked (42 min delay to start), but John Lackey certainly did not. Once again, John Lackey did the opposite as I expected and dazzled in a 8-1 victory over the Cleveland Indians. I know I wasn't the only one who thought Justin Masterson was going to shut the Sox down and make us say "Why can't we get guys like that?", but the...

Sox week in review: The good, the bad and the ugly

The Guru Contributing Writer It was an emotional week for the Olde Towne Team. Former manager Terry Francona returned to Fenway Park, injuries tested the Sox depth and the RemDawg was exposed. The Red Sox did go 4-3 on the week with wins over Minnesota, Chicago and two over Cleveland. The Sox record now stands at 30-20, one game behind the first place Yankees and are 7-3 in...

Terry Francona Returns To Boston

Terry Francona returned to Boston Thursday for the first time since his firing from the Red Sox in 2011. Terry Francona knows Fenway Park. He knows Boston. He helped bring the Boston Red Sox two titles in his eight-year tenure there, including a magical, curse-breaking eight-game run to the 2004 title. The Red Sox were relevant every single year with Francona at the helm. Now Francona...

Young Red Sox Fans Have It Out Over Seat

Video: Multiple open hand wacks thrown!

Bullpen bounces back

It had been almost three weeks since we last saw Andrew Bailey on the mound for the Red Sox. Yesterday in Chicago he hopped off the bullpen bench in the 9th inning to warm up for a save situation, finally! Unfortunately, or not depending on your disposition, the Red Sox tacked on two more runs and the save situation evaporated. Either way, he walked onto the mound in the bottom...
