And then there was one... Homer Bailey remains the lone arbitration-eligible player who has not yet agreed to terms with the Reds, as they have reached a two-year agreement with Mat Latos. Mark Sheldon was the first I saw to tweet about it.
The terms of the deal were not immediately available but it's safe to say Latos earned a massive raise, after earning $550,000 last year. When the team and Latos exchanged salary figures last month, they offered $4.15 million while Latos sought $4.7 million.
*Update: Sheldon writes that it is a two-year, $11.5 million for Latos with assorted bonuses.
While it's not the long term deal I'm sure the Reds wanted, it will at least keep the two sides from having to go to arbitration next year as well, and most importantly, keep Latos on the mound in Cincinnati through 2014. Latos will be eligible for arbitration again in 2015, before becoming a free agent in 2016.
