CHICAGO (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds have reinstated outfielder Ryan Ludwick from the 60-day disabled list before their game Monday against the Chicago Cubs. Ludwick has been out since opening day when he tore cartilage in his right shoulder during a head-first slide into third base against the Los Angeles Angels. Ludwick had shoulder surgery and couldn't swing for three months. During a rehab assignment, Ludwick went 6 for 44, but finished with a four-game hitting streak. Ludwick says coming back has been "a lot tougher than I thought it would be." Also, Cincinnati optioned OF Derrick Robinson to Triple-A Louisville. Robinson was hitting .254 with seven RBIs. In 2012, Ludwick hit .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBIs.

Can the Reds make a run at the division?

If the season ended today, the Reds would have a spot in the one game playoff for the post season. Any playoff baseball is good, but the Reds want to also make some noise by taking their division. Currently the Reds are 2 games because the Cardinals and 6 games behind the Pirates. Popular belief is the Pirates will eventually fade, so as the Reds look to put some wins together, they...

CINCINNATI Fans unrealistically expect Ryan Ludwick to be the savior, to be the guy who flies into Great American Ball Park with an S on his chest, a one-man cavalry to save the season. And it would be fair for Ludwick to say thats unfair. He doesnt. In fact, he says those expectations are to be expected and he expects to do just that.Ludwick hasnt played for the Cincinnati Reds...

Paul, Hannahan bounce back in Reds' win

CINCINNATI Xavier Paul and Jack Hannahan said all of the right things Sunday. They said all of the right baseball things after the Reds pulled out a 3-2 win against San Diego in 13 innings at Great American Ball Park. I dont believe for a second they told the whole truth. They werent lying but they couldnt have been telling the whole truth. Not with Saturday night still fresh...

Pete Rose wished he beat his wife instead of gambled

Former baseball great Pete Rose completely ruined his legacy over gambling, just about the worst thing you could do while being a player in the sport, at least according to the MLB, who never forgive him for his misdeeds. Many things are shunned upon in baseball, steroid use being the most popular, but players are given second chances all the time. Gambling doesn’t have that luxury.

Baker confident in Reds' chances to make postseason

CINCINNATI It is the time of year when scoreboard-watching is about as prevalent as an ornithologist watching birds. And, of course, there is a similarity with Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker because he is bird-watching ever day, watching the progress or lack of progress of the St. Louis Cardinals. But the Cardinals arent the only team Baker follows because, Its no different...

Vada Pinson: All time Cincinnati Reds OF vs Hall Fame

The Cincinnati Reds made the World Series in 1961, where they lost to the New York Yankees. It was the first time they made it to the show since winning the World Series in 1940. This was before the development of the Big Red Machine teams of the late 1960s and 1970s. Former NL and AL MVP Frank Robinson was the best offensive player on that team, but one of the better players on...

Phillips is showing signs of emerging from the long slump that followed...
