Sliding Into Home:
According to Andrew Marchand
, injured outfielder Brett Gardner took five at-bats in an extended spring training game today and Girardi sounded pleased with the results saying "all went well." Marchand went on to say that there is a "remote" possibility that Gardner could return during this weekend's Subway Series vs. the grossly overachieving Mets. Girardi wants to give Gardner tomorrow off and then have him play a few days in a row before making any decisions.
"Everything is pretty good right now,'' Girardi said. "We'll just have to see how he does. It's possible (he could play this weekend), but we'll just have to see how it goes.''"

Might as well brighten up this rainy day with a handshake, high five, or picture with the artful center fielder. Grandy will be on the main floor promoting the New York Yankees Fragrance line.

As one economist described it, MLB’s Competitive Balance Tax, otherwise known as the Luxury Tax, was designed to target really one club, the Yankees. And yet, in every year that there has been the soft cap in baseball, the Bronx Bombers have blown through the thresholds like a 100-MPH fastball.
But, it appears that the penalties are finally wearing on the club, and stiffer penalties...
NEW YORK -- Inning by inning, New York Yankees starter Ivan Nova looked less like the pitcher who had been roughed up for most of the season and more like the 16-game winner he was last year. With each new scoreless inning, Nova also made Tampa Bay Rays starter Alex Cobb's own impressive outing look as though it would end in vain, which it did in the Yankees' 4-1 win Wednesday...
It’s a baseball axiom that “real” pitchers learn to adapt to their diminishing stuff and maintain their excellence through mastery of the craft’s fundamentals. Generally, such hurlers tend to see lower strikeout totals, but that goes along with improved control. Basically, they try to become Greg Maddux.
Andy Pettitte has come out of retirement this season and turned into...
