While Philadelphia Phillies fans may have been waiting with bated breath for Josh Hamilton or B.J. Upton, the center fielder for the 2013 season will instead be a guy few of them heard of before this month. Even so, it didn't take them long to like Ben Revere, and vice versa. On the final day of the winter meetings, the Phils made a trade with the Minnesota Twins that netted them Revere, 24. Through social media, Revere struck a chord with Phillies fans. For instance, someone on Twitter made a photo-shopped cartoon of Revere as Paul Revere, on horseback with a lantern in his hand. Revere took the joke and went with it, making it the background on his Twitter page. "They have been just showing me love with open arms," Revere said Dec. 13 when he met the Philadelphia media for the first time. "A buddy of mine lives up here, and he said they are different than Minnesota fans. But I know they know the game of baseball a lot. They know about the keys, and they kn...

New Phillies Centerfielder Ben Revere Meets Philadelphia, Makes Cheesesteak Faux Pas

Ben Revere came to Philadelphia today to meet the Phillies for the first time and got a few experiences around the City of Brotherly Love and on the high seas to show for it. Listening to Revere on 97.5 the Fanatic with Mike Missanelli and watching him on Comcast Sportsnet,...

Philadelphia Phillies storyline: The GM’s creative juggling ahead

Michael Young was the 2nd domino to fall for the Philadelphia Phillies.  How will the remaining dollars be spent by Rube Amaro? TAL’S HANDY CAPS WELCOME, NEWCOMERS: My articles are designed to represent a baseball-man’s thinking, the view from the dugout and the GM’s box. Most fans do not consider the budget, prospects on the radar, the stick-glove-or-power requirements, the...

Phillies Rumors: Philly Seeks Low-Risk Starter

The Philadelphia Phillies are seeking a low-risk, high-reward pitcher to fill out the back-end of their starting rotation, reports Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We'll probably look to add a low-risk, high-reward type of guy, or somebody's who's come back from an injury, or someone like that who can battle for that fifth spot," general...

Why I Love the Phillies – Andrew

I love the Phillies because it is common conversation in my family growing up. One more thing to build a stronger family around. They also provided me with a topic for soda tab chain mail that I made. Which can be seen if you goggle “3000 soda tab Phillies jersey“. - Andrew Read more “Why I Love the Phillies” stories from Phillies Nation readers here.

Phillies Sign Mike Adams

The Phillies have signed reliever Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million contract, with a third-year vesting option at preusmably the same annual rate. Adams underwent surgery for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome in October — a literal rib-removal procedure — but expects to be ready for opening day. He has had his fair share of health issues over the years but is still very much worth...

Ross’s Pricetag Doesn’t Match His Upgrade

The Phillies acquired Ben Revere to play centerfield for the foreseeable future but question marks remain in the corner outfield spots. Odds are that Domonic Brown starts in one of the positions on an everyday basis. The other post is likely up for grabs. John Mayberry and Darin Ruf represent internal options while Josh Hamilton, Nick Swisher and Cody Ross are the oft-discussed...

Crazy money outside the Phillies’ league

Imagine being stuck with the contracts of Ryan Howard and Josh Hamilton in 2016. Howard will be 36 and Hamilton would be 35. Roy Halladay and Chase Utley in 2016? Forget it. How about trying to win it all in 2013 and then revamp the team? The big TV money is not there yet and the luxury tax threshold begins next season. Right now the outfield is Daren Ruff in left, Ben Revere in...

Off-season Check In: Darin Ruf

Throughout the off-season, I have checked in with various players from around the Phillies organization to gauge their thoughts on fall/winter leagues they’ve played in and what their outlooks are going forward.  Recently, I spoke with outfielder/first baseman Darin Ruf, who mashed 38 home runs and drove in 104 runs for Double-A Reading before making his major league debut with...

MTR Discussion: Should the Philadelphia Phillies Sign Josh Hamilton?

Should the Philadelphia Philles sign Josh Hamilton? Even though he is left handed and cost prohibitive, should the Phillies do what it takes to bring the outfielder to hitter friendly Citizens Bank Park?

The Phillies Don't Have To Get Hamilton, But They Should Try

The Phillies played most of the second half with Dom Brown and John Mayberry Jr. as their only full time outfielders, and went 13 games over .500 in that half. They ran out Nate Schierholtz, Laynce Nix, Juan Pierre, and some truly bad options in the third spot, and continued...

The Phillies Should Give Domonic Brown His Chance

Photo via Philly.com Yesterday, reports surfaced that the Phillies and Chicago Cubs had at least discussed a possible trade that included sending outfielder Domonic Brown to the Windy City for 37-year-old Alfonso Soriano. You heard me. The Phillies, who are searching the market for a power-hitting outfielder, are rumored to have discussed a trade that would have immediately caused...
