Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Rich Harden has seemingly pitched his last game for the Cubs. The free agent to be was skipped in his last start because of fatigue. That fatigue is due to heavy pitch counts in short starts during September. Now, he'll miss his last start of the season after being shut down. Harden's return seems questionable after he went 9-9 with a 4.09 ERA and 4.30 FIP this season. Harden hopes to return to the Cubs next season. We'll see what happens. Hopefully we'll sit down with Jim (Hendry) and talk about that. It's a good city, good fans, good team ... I feel like what we did this year obviously was a little disappointing. It would be good to come back next year and make a run for it.It doesn't seem the feeling is mutual. Before Sunday's game, manager Lou Piniella hinted the Cubs have no plans to bring Harden back in 2010. When discussing 2010's starting pitching, Piniella discussed Ryan Dempster, Carlos Zambrano, Tom Gorzelanny, Randy Wells, Ted Lilly, and Jeff Samardzija. No mention was made of Harden. It could have been unintentional because Harden is a free agent. The Cubs would be smart to forgo resigning Harden.
